Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to flexible catheters for both electrophysiology mapping and ablation using a high-density array of electrodes. These catheters may be used to detect electrophysiological characteristics of tissue in contact with the electrodes, and conduct monopolar and bipolar ablations of the tissue.
Apparatus, systems, and methods to improve atrial fibrillation outcomes involving the left atrial appendage
Apparatus, systems, and methods are provided for monitoring AF episodes, delivering ATP pulses, and/or achieving electrical isolation of the left atrial appendage (LAA) of a patient's heart and/or preventing thrombus formation after electrical isolation. For example, devices are provided that may implanted from within the left atrium, e.g., to isolate the LAA, prevent thrombus formation within the LAA, facilitate endothelialization, and/or deliver pacing.
Catheter with composite construction
A catheter has a composite and segmented construction in a distal section that includes deflectable members and support member arranged in alternating sequence, with each support member carrying a ring electrode and the deflectable members being flexible to allow deflection of the distal section as a whole. Carried on an outer surface of the support member is a coil location sensor. The distal section is configured with a distal irrigation fluid path extending axially through the deflectable members and the support members to deliver irrigation fluid to the ring electrode and the tip electrode. A method of constructing a catheter includes building a section of the catheter from the inside out by mounting the support members on a tubing at predetermined locations and filling gaps in between with a more flexible material to form the deflectable members by extrusion segments or injection molding over assembled components internal to the catheter.
Ablation and mapping catheter for treatments in electrocardiology
The ablation and mapping catheter dedicated to treatments in electrocardiology and ablation of cardiac arrhythmias with the possibility of visualisation includes a distal tip, diagnostic rings, a main tube, a guiding handgrip, and an electrical connector for a generator through which the diagnostic rings and a distal ring are connected to a system for three-dimensional electroanatomical mapping. The catheter includes at least 8 (up to 14) diagnostic rings, wherein 4 diagnostic distal rings are connected to one generator and through it to the system for three-dimensional electroanatomical mapping and to an electrophysiological system, and subsequent 4 (up to 10) diagnostic proximal rings are connected to a second generator and/or to the system for three-dimensional electroanatomical mapping and to the electrophysiological system.
Extending the tracking volume in a probe tracking system
A system includes multiple electrically-conductive channels and a processor. The processor is configured to receive, over the electrically-conductive channels, (i) respective first electric currents from a probe, which is within a body of a patient, via a plurality of first electrodes, which are attached to skin of the patient at a region of the body, and (ii) a second electric current from the probe via a second electrode, which is attached to the skin and is connected to one of the channels. The processor is further configured to ascertain respective first electric-current values of the first electric currents and a second electric-current value of the second electric current, and to calculate a position of the probe between the region and the second electrode, based on the first electric-current values and the second electric-current value. Other embodiments are also described.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR TRACKING AND VISUALIZING MEDICAL DEVICES
An electroanatomical mapping system tracks and visualizes an item of interest, such as a medical device or anatomical structure, as the item moves within a non-ionizing localization field. The system localizes the item within the localization field and determines the initial position of the item with respect to an imaging device (e.g., an intracardiac echocardiography catheter) field of view. The system displays a region of the field of view containing the initial position of the item if it is within the field of view. If not, the system can output a notification. As the item moves, the system can update the displayed region so that it remains focused on the item, and can output a notification if the item exits the field of view. The displayed region(s) can include one or more two-dimensional image slices, optionally output as a three-dimensional volumetric image.
Mapping binned medical data
A method of generating a combined image of a body part from a sequence of partially overlapping source images of the body part, each of the partially overlapping source images showing the body part at one of a plurality of different times, the source images being ordered in the sequence according to the different times, the method including defining a temporally coherent sequence of transformations, for registering the partially overlapping source images in the sequence with each other, registering the source images to each other using the defined temporally coherent sequence of transformations, to obtain co-registered images, and combining at least some of the co-registered images into a combined image. Related apparatus and methods are also described.
Surgical instruments with sensors for detecting tissue properties, and system using such instruments
A system is provided that furnishes expert procedural guidance based upon patient-specific data gained from surgical instruments incorporating sensors on the instrument's working surface, one or more reference sensors placed about the patient, sensors implanted before, during or after the procedure, the patient's personal medical history, and patient status monitoring equipment. Embodiments include a system having a surgical instrument with a sensor for generating a signal indicative of a property of a subject tissue of the patient, which signal is converted into a current dataset and stored. A processor compares the current dataset with other previously stored datasets, and uses the comparison to assess a physical condition of the subject tissue and/or to guide a procedure being performed on the tissue.
Expandable elements for delivery of electric fields
A method, system, and device for electroporation. A system may include a medical device with a plurality of electrodes borne on an expandable element and an energy generator in communication with the electrodes. The energy generator may have processing circuitry configured to selectively deliver electroporation energy to at least one of the electrodes. The processing circuitry may determine whether an alert condition is present and, if so, cease the delivery of electroporation energy to one or more electrodes identified as the cause of the alert condition and/or prevent the delivery of electroporation energy to the one or more electrodes identified as the cause of the alert condition. The energy generator may also be configured to deliver electroporation energy in a sequence of a plurality of energy delivery patterns to enhance lesion formation.
DATA REUSE FOR FILLING IN MISSING DATA POINTS
A medical display processing device and a method of reusing data includes acquiring, over time via electrodes, electrical signals each acquired via one of the electrodes and indicating electrical activity at a location of a portion of patient anatomy in a 3D space. Electrical signal data, corresponding to the electrical signals, is filtered according to first filter parameter settings and first mapping information is generated for displaying a map of the portion of patient anatomy and the filtered electrical signal data. An indication of a region of the portion of patient anatomy on the map is received and second mapping information is generated for displaying, at the region on the map, a portion of the electrical signal data previously filtered from display.
