A system includes an implant and a packaging device assembled with the implant to hold an outer sleeve and a head element of the implant in a desired position relative to one another. The packaging device includes clip arms sized and shaped so that, when the arms are held toward a closed configuration, the implant is housed therebetween in the desired position and proximal ends of the arms form a space via which an insertion device is insertable to be coupled to the implant, and a housing defining a space within which the clip is housed. The housing includes a retaining feature for retaining the clip therein and a camming element which, when a proximal force is exerted on the implant via the insertion device coupled thereto, causes the arms to move away from one toward an open configuration to release the implant therefrom.

Bone plate

The present invention is directed to a bone plate and its method of use for reducing a bone fracture, the bone plate having a longitudinal axis, the bone plate comprising an upper surface, a lower surface, a first hole for engaging a head of a first bone anchor. The first hole is configured and adapted to fix a shaft of the first bone anchor along a first axis. A second hole is spaced apart from the first hole along the longitudinal axis. The second hole is for engaging a head of a second bone anchor, and is configured and adapted to fix a shaft of the second bone anchor along a second axis. The first hole and the second hole are configured such that the first axis and the second axis define a single plane and intersect at a point below the lower surface. The shafts of the first and second bone anchors may touch or nearly touch at the point of intersection, such that the first and second bone anchors form a truss.

Active fracture compression implants

An assembly and method are disclosed. The assembly includes an orthopaedic implant and an active compression member. The implant has a compression screw hole with a step and the active compression member includes an outer tube and an inner slide. The tube and slide allow the proximal end portion and the distal end portion to move relative to one another. The method includes inserting a guide wire, placing a drill over the guide wire and drilling into a femur, tapping the drilled hole, using a compression device to reduce the fracture using the orthopaedic implant step, and inserting one or more active compression members into the tapped hole.

Fracture fixation devices and methods achieve stabilization of a bone fragment. A nail section of the device is dimensioned to be positioned within an intramedullary canal of a bone such that the nail section spans a fracture site in the bone. The nail section bends into a post-insertion configuration different from a pre-insertion configuration when inserted into the intramedullary canal. The nail fastening section is connected to the nail section by a connecting element on a first side of the fracture site. At least a portion of the nail fastening section is positioned outside the bone. A first end of the nail section and a second end of the nail fastening section are positioned on an opposite second side of the fracture site when the fracture fixation device is implanted in the bone.

The cephalomedullary nailing system of this invention contributes to solving three main problems: reduce fractures, improve assembly biomechanics to ensure the load axis is favorable as possible for bony fragments and prevent femoral neck collapse as well as offset and limb length loss, hence avoiding the possibility of reduced abductor power. The system is based on specific screw channel geometry and the placement of an additional locking screw, allowing the nail to turn 360 and facilitating nail insertion through the screw.
