RATCHETED SPINAL DEVICE
20190201058 · 2019-07-04 · ·

A ratcheted spinal device including a variable-length member including a ratchet mechanism that has an operative configuration that allows a change in length of the variable-length member in one direction and prevents a change in length of the variable-length member in an opposite direction, wherein the variable-length member includes polyaxial-joint attachment members for attachment to bone, which permit pivoting movement of the attachment members about more than one pivoting axis.

BONE FUSION/FIXATION DEVICE AND RELATED METHODS

The various aspects disclosed herein relate to bone fixation or fusion devices, including fixation or fusion devices that are implanted around the target bone. Certain device aspects relate to devices that can be bent or otherwise deformed to replicate the natural or desired curve of the bone being treated. In addition, other aspects relate to implantation devices that can be used to implant or position the bone fixation or fusion devices. Aspects related to the making of the device and its use are discussed.

Configurable Intervertebral Implant

The present disclosure relates to a surgical device, such as a surgical implant, which may be used in several types of procedures. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to implants for use in an anterior, posterior, posterior lateral or direct lateral approach to the disc space. The surgical device may be manipulated in various manners to accommodate delivery through a minimally invasive portal in one configuration and adjusted to a second configuration once placed in the intervertebral space. A delivery system for placing the surgical device in a body is also disclosed.

SPINE STABILIZATION

A bone stabilizing plate includes two plate portions, each affixable to bones of a patient, the plate portions telescoping together with mating rails and grooves. A limiter associated with one of the plate portions sliding engages one a catch associated with the other of the plate portions, when the plate portions are telescoped together, and resists stops telescoping when the plate portions are telescoped a predetermined distance apart. Once the limiter and catch are engaged, the plate portions enable imposition of a minimum compressive force between bones connected to the plates. The limiter is resiliently positioned to deflect into a relief formed in its respective plate portion. A groove positioned proximate the catch enables free telescoping motion limited by the engagement of the catch and limiter, whereby the minimum compressive force between bones is maintained, and Wolfe's Law may apply.

BONE TIES AND STAPLES FOR USE IN ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY

The present invention concerns the field of orthopaedic surgery, veterinary surgery, and maxillofacial surgery. The invention may find application in other fields such as dentistry or where joining, fusing or stabilising of two bones (or one bone and one prosthetic member) are required. There invention provides a surgical bone tie for use in joining abutting bone surfaces for fusing or knitting of the bone together, the tie comprising (or consisting of) first and second pieces each having a proximal end region and a distal end region which define a longitudinal axis therebetween, wherein the distal end regions are each provided with a mounting feature for fixing, or permitting the fixing, of each piece to respective underlying portions of bone, wherein the proximal end regions of each pieces are adapted for engagement together along said axis so that one proximal end region may be accommodated by the other proximal end region to provide a bridge between the respective distal end regions, the engagement permitting one way travel of one piece progressively towards the other so that the bridge length becomes progressively smaller until a desired amount of separation between the distal end regions is obtained, and the a desired compression between the abutting bones is obtained. The engagement between the proximal end regions preferably comprises a ratchet and pawl connection.

BONE PLATE WITH MOVABLE JOINT

System, including methods and devices, for fixing bone. The system may include a bone plate having two or more plate members connected to one another with one or more movable joints. Each joint may permit the orientation of the plate members to be adjusted relative to one another in a single plane or two or more nonparallel planes. The joint may have a movable configuration and a fixed configuration. Methods of creating the bone plate are also provided.

Sternal closure device with dual locking mechanism
12048465 · 2024-07-30 · ·

A sternal closure device includes an insertion member, a receiver member and a joint locking mechanism. The joint locking mechanism includes a dual pawl assembly and a dual ratchet assembly. The dual pawl assembly includes a pair of pawl arms that include heads with outward facing teeth. The dual ratchet assembly includes a pair of ratchet arms with inward facing teeth that are configured for an intermeshed engagement with the teeth on the corresponding pawl arms. Alignment tabs on the ratchet arms are captured within guide channels on the receiver member. The configuration and number of the teeth contribute to the strength of the device. The locking mechanism contributes to efficiency, speed, and strength of the closure.

Distraction osteogenesis device and methods

The present disclosure is directed to implantable distraction osteogenesis devices and methods of their use. In a non-limiting embodiment, the device has a guide, a first bone attachment device slidably engaged with the guide, a force delivery mechanism coupled to the first bone attachment device and operably engaged with the guide, a regulator operably engaged with the force delivery mechanism, and a second bone attachment device rigidly fixed to the guide, wherein the force delivery mechanism is configured to exert a force to move the first bone attachment device along the guide at a predetermined rate, and the regulator is configured to control the movement of the first bone attachment device along the guide without percutaneous intervention.
