APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR JOINT REPAIR

A bolster system having a first bolster device, a second bolster device, and an adjustable tether that includes a one-way pre-tied slideable adjustment knot. The adjustment knot is at a first position prior to insertion of the first bolster device into a passageway in one or more bones. The second bolster device includes a body portion having an outer portion that is sized to be received in the passageway and/or in an aperture of a bone plate. The body portion also includes a channel that is sized to accommodate recessed and/or embedded placement of the pre-tied slideable adjustment knot. The second bolster device can also include an oversized plate portion that abuts against a cortex of a bone or a wall of a bone plate. The second bolster device can also include a threaded member or retention tab that lockingly secures the second bolster device to a bone plate.

Apparatus for driver-specific backout prevention

A driver-specific back-out prevention mechanism is disclosed that includes a screw and a body. A first driver can be used for coupling and decoupling the screw with the body, and a second driver can only be used for adjusting the position of the screw in the receiving body. The body includes a cavity for receiving a head of the screw, with the cavity having an inward flange. The screw includes upper and lower sockets, with a channel extending though the head from the lower socket and a lock body disposed in the channel. Engagement with the first driver allows the locking body to move such that the fastener can be inserted and removed from the body. Engagement with the second driver displaces the locking body such that the locking body interferes with the flange such that screw fastener cannot be removed from the body by the second driver.

A fastener, for example a bone screw, is sized to pass into an aperture of an implant, for example, a bone plate, the fastener having an anchor portion engageable with body tissue, and a head portion formed by an assembly of an insert and an anchor extension. The insert and anchor extension cooperate to form a reduced dimension passable into the aperture, and an expanded dimension not passable out of the aperture. The size of the assembly may be configurable, for example, by tabs, ramped surfaces, or an expanding diameter of a threadable insert.

Cerclage cable system and apparatus

A cerclage cable system is disclosed which includes a bone plate, one or more securing devices, and one or more cerclage cables. The bone plate includes a plurality of bone plate apertures thereupon, wherein the bone plate is configured to be affixed to a bone. The one or more securing devices include a body having a proximal end and a distal end, wherein at least one securing device aperture is disposed toward the proximal end, wherein the distal end of the securing device is configured to be inserted into and received by the plurality of bone plate apertures. The one or more cerclage cables include two terminal ends, wherein the one or more cerclage cables are wrapped around the bone, wherein one terminal end of the one or more cerclage cables is passed through at least one securing device aperture.

Implant positioning devices for use with and assisting in positioning orthopaedic fixation devices (such as bone plates, etc.). An implant positioning device may include a body that has a fastener guide with slits in a first end of the fastener guide that form a retaining arm proximal to the first end of the fastener guide. The implant positioning device may also be coupled to a bone plate by a retaining beam positioned within the implant positioning device to facilitate ease of alignment and insertion of the fastener into a fastener apertures of the bone plate.

A personalized fixation system includes a surgical planning software tool configured to adjust relationships of relevant anatomy of a subject, at least one bone anchor, a plate having a shape that does not conform to a single plane, the plate configured to accept the at least one bone anchor, wherein the shape of the plate is at least partially determined by the surgical planning software tool, and wherein the plate includes at least one node having a hole configured to receive the at least one bone anchor, and a locking element configured to connect the at least one bone anchor to the plate, wherein the plate is manufactured using additive manufacturing.

System and method for tracking torsion of a screw

A system for determining the torsion of a screw is provided. The system generally comprises a first washer, second washer, spring, radio frequency identification (RFID) tag, and interrogation device. A screw is inserted through the system and provides the compression force necessary to bring the first washer and second washer separated by the spring in contact with one another, thus creating a complete circuit from the first circuit portion and second circuit portion of the signal transmitter. The interrogation device is used to send and receive information to and from the signal transmitter. An encasing may be used to encapsulate the first washer, second washer, spring, and signal transmitter in a way such that they are protected from the environment.

The present invention provides a method for stabilizing a fractured bone. The method includes positioning an elongate rod in the medullary canal of the fractured bone and forming a passageway through the cortex of the bone. The passageway extends from the exterior surface of the bone to the medullary canal of the bone. The method also includes creating a bonding region on the elongate rod. The bonding region generally aligned with the passageway of the cortex. Furthermore, the method includes positioning a fastener in the passageway of the cortex and on the bonding region of the elongate rod and thermally bonding the fastener to the bonding region of the elongate rod while the fastener is positioned in the passageway of the cortex.

Modular bone implant devices and means of insertion

A modular bone fixation implant includes a center post having exterior bone engaging features and configured to be implanted within a bone. The center post includes an aperture at an outer end of the center post. One or more interchangeable modular components may be placed within the bone and anchored to the aperture of the center post. Interchangeable modular components may include staples, bone plates, and spacers, each having at least a first end including a post engaging arm sized and shaped to seat within an interlocking feature of the aperture. A locking screw is provided to anchor all components to the center post when the interchangeable modular components have been placed.
