DEVICE AND METHOD FOR CORRECTING SPINAL DEFORMITIES IN PATIENTS

Devices and related methods for the dynamic correction of spinal deformities are disclosed. The devices and methods are particularly useful for correcting an abnormal curvature of the spine. In one exemplary embodiment, a method for correcting deformity via a spinal implant that can include a polymer between or attached to a top and bottom plate, which can exist in a wedge-shaped configuration in order to apply asymmetric forces to the spinal column, is provided. The implant may be inserted between adjacent vertebrae comprising part of the abnormal curvature, thereby restoring the normal curvature of a spine.

Dome Toe Resurfacing System

An innovative dome toe resurfacing system for performing metatarsophalangeal joint replacement is disclosed. The present invention comprises a prosthetic implant for metatarsophalangeal joint, and one or more cone extensions that covers portions of the prosthesis that extends into the metatarsal bone and phalanx bone. The cone extensions include a plurality of ridges that will catch bone on insertion and provide a press fit. The present invention also includes a cone and cup reaming system wherein one or more reamers will ream a cone/cup shape for the articular surfaces, and prepare the metatarsal and phalangeal canals for the insertion of the cone extensions. The cone extensions have ends that fit the reamed cone/cup shape wherein the cone/cup shape resembles the natural anatomy of articular surfaces of metatarsophalangeal joint.

PATIENT SPECIFIC FEMORAL PROSTHESIS

A femoral prosthesis system for an orthopaedic hip implant and method of use is disclosed. The prosthesis system includes a femoral stem component that includes a core body and a casing that encases the core body. The casing can be additively manufactured such that the core body defines a predetermined orientation in the core body among a plurality of permissible predetermined orientations. The femoral stem component can further include a neck and a trunnion that extends from the neck. The neck can extend out with respect to the core body at a predetermined angle within a range of permissible predetermined angles.

A prosthetic disc can take the form of a sensing artificial disc that includes a resilient core and at least one sensor configured to sense one or more conditions within and/or experienced by the disc. The sensing artificial disc can serve as a replacement to a failed or injured disc between two vertebrae of a spine. The sensing artificial disc can include at least one element configured to change a condition or property of the resilient core in response to a condition sensed by the at least one sensor. A prosthetic disc can include therapeutic system configured to deliver medication to the body, which can include a reservoir of medication.

Orthopedic implant with integrated core

Orthopedic implants constructs include one or two rigid monolithic plates and a core that is integrally formed within an interior space within a rigid monolithic plate. An exemplary construct that includes two plates between which is a core that is interengaged with each plate, the two plates thereby forming a generally disc-like shaped construct with opposing tissue contacting surfaces. The constructs are suitable, for example for spinal interbody fusion and artificial disc applications.

Load dissipating arthoplasty prostheses

A load dissipating arthroplasty prosthesis comprising a shell, an articular device extending into the shell through a collar defined in the sell, a head and neck portion of the articular device extending from the collar, a shaft portion of the articular device extending into the shell, and a plurality of shock absorbing arcuate linkers spacing and allowing limited movement between the shell and the articular device.

HARD-TISSUE IMPLANT COMPRISING A SHAFT, A SURFACE, PILLARS FOR CONTACTING A HARD TISSUE, SLOTS TO BE OCCUPIED BY THE HARD TISSUE, AND A THREAD DISPOSED HELICALLY ALONG THE SHAFT

A hard-tissue implant is provided. The implant includes a shaft, a surface of the shaft, pillars for contacting a hard tissue, slots to be occupied by the hard tissue, and a thread disposed helically along the shaft, extending radially from the shaft, and having a plurality of grooves oriented transversely with respect to the thread that define a series of thread segments and thread gaps along the thread. The implant has a Young's modulus of elasticity of at least 3 GPa and a ratio of (i) the sum of the volumes of the slots and the thread gaps to (ii) the sum of the volumes of the pillars and the thread segments and the volumes of the slots and the thread gaps of 0.40:1 to 0.90:1. Also provided is a method of use of the implant for fusion of two or more bones in an individual in need thereof.
