End effectors and systems including end effectors including embedded batteries and auxiliary components powered by the batteries are described. In an example, the end effector includes a base portion coupleable to a motor carried by an appliance that is separate from the end effector; and a battery disposed in the base portion configured to power an auxiliary component of the end effector.

A roadway or pavement sweeper with multiple sweeping modes for the removal of debris from a swept surface may, in some embodiments, include a sweeper vehicle having a pair of side-brooms independently movable between a retracted and extended position for sweeping debris into an area therebetween and at least one material-transfer broom to sweep a portion of the debris accumulated between the side-brooms as the vehicle moves in its direction of travel. A fan-driven suction-inlet may be provided at or adjacent each side of the vehicle. The at least one material-transfer broom may rotate in a first or other direction to transfer debris for entrainment into a selected suction-inlet for transfer to a debris hopper. Other embodiments are also described.

A tri-pad scrubbing device primarily used for cleaning vehicles where the scrubbing pads are powered by a single gear motor and each pad is capable of rotating and tilting to conform to the compound curves of a vehicle to allow the pads to maintain full contact with the surface being scrubbed. The tri-pad assembly is attached to the distal end of an adjustable length extension pole. A rechargeable battery power supply, which powers the gear motor, is removably mounted near the proximal end of the extension pole. The tri-pad assembly is attached to the distal end of the extension pole via a rotating and locking hinge mechanism. A push button switch is provided near the extension pole handle end.

A grill cleaner apparatus for cleaning a grill using rotary power from an external source such as a hand drill, having a drive shaft and cleaning wheels such as wire brush wheels, with a forward cleaning wheel rotating with the drive shaft and cleaning grill bars, and two side cleaning wheels rotating perpendicular to the drive shaft and cleaning grill bars and additionally propelling the grill cleaner forward.

A mobile cleaning robot can include a body, a drive wheel, and a plurality of skids. The drive wheel can be connected to the body and can be engageable with a floor surface of an environment. A rotating grooming brush comprising a brush hub having grooming elements and shroud elements, and method for grooming a surface having an unwanted material thereon. The elements extend from the brush hub and may be positioned near its outer periphery. The elements may be grooming elements forming an array and shroud elements forming a shroud array. A rigid or elastomeric shroud extending from the brush hub surface may optionally be included about the edge of the brush hub, to the outside of the grooming elements. Rotation of the grooming attachment brush causes a low pressure region to build in the central area of the brush. This low pressure region creates a resulting force that forcefully attracts the grooming attachment brush to the surface to be groomed. The resulting force is controlled by the diameter of the brush hub, arrangement, of the elements and the speed of rotation.
