The includes providing an implantable mesh for hernia repair comprised of at least one of polytetrafluoroethylene fibers or polytetrafluoroethylene filaments, wherein the at least one of the polytetrafluoroethylene fibers or polytetrafluoroethylene filaments is at least one of directionally or non-directionally oriented, positioning a pharmaceutical agent on the implantable mesh, and coating at least a portion of the at least one of the polytetrafluoroethylene fibers or polytetrafluoroethylene filaments and the pharmaceutical agent with a polymer, wherein the implantable mesh is configured to be positioned in the body of the patient during the repair of the hernia and the pharmaceutical agent elutes from the implantable mesh into the body of the patient at the site of the hernia repair.

Antibiotic delivery system and method for treating an infected synovial joint during re-implantation of an orthopedic prosthesis

An antibiotic delivery system including an intramedullary stem that is adapted to be removably mounted into a medullary canal of a bone. The stem includes a body having an inlet adapted to be in fluid communication with a source of liquid-borne antibiotic and a plurality of outlets disposed along the stem. A channel extends between the inlet and the plurality of outlets for delivering a fluid-borne antibiotic from the inlet to the plurality of outlets so as to distribute the antibiotic along the medullary canal in a controlled fashion. A method of treating an infected joint during a two-stage re-implantation of an orthopedic implant is also disclosed.

Method and Devices for Intracorporeal Bonding of Implants with Thermal Energy

The present invention provides a method for stabilizing a fractured bone. The method includes positioning an elongate rod in the medullary canal of the fractured bone and forming a passageway through the cortex of the bone. The passageway extends from the exterior surface of the bone to the medullary canal of the bone. The method also includes creating a bonding region on the elongate rod. The bonding region generally aligned with the passageway of the cortex. Furthermore, the method includes positioning a fastener in the passageway of the cortex and on the bonding region of the elongate rod and thermally bonding the fastener to the bonding region of the elongate rod while the fastener is positioned in the passageway of the cortex.

METHOD, SYSTEM, AND APPARATUS FOR ANTIBIOTIC DISPENSING KNEE PROSTHESIS

A spacer for a knee replacement prosthesis may be provided. The spacer may include a lower surface, the lower surface having a locking component adapted to interlock with a tibial tray; an upper surface, the upper surface having an optional central femoral guide and a pair of condyle support platforms, each of the condyle support platforms being disposed on an opposite side of the central femoral guide, each of the condyle support platforms being smooth, the surface of each of the condyle support platforms further having a shallow concavity; and a body incorporating the upper and lower surfaces, the body having a hollow outer portion surrounding an internal reservoir, the body being impermeable to fluid; the body further having one or more ports, each with a channel, each channel extending through the hollow outer portion of the body directing the flow of fluid in and out of the port(s).

Orthopedic implant for sustained drug release

A method includes forming a mixture including a therapeutic agent and a solid delivery medium, injecting the mixture into a reservoir within an orthopedic implant body, and storing the injected mixture in the reservoir.

METHODS OF SECURING A FASTENER

Embodiments may include an attachable fastener, which may include a bondable material that may be secured to the end of an end effector. Vibration may be tuned to occur at a distal end of the fastener. Accordingly, the fastener may be used to generate heat at a distal point of contact. If the contact surface contains bondable material, that material may be softened. If the fastener includes bondable material at the point of contact, that material may also be softened by heat produced by vibration at the contact area. A hard implant or another polymeric material may function as the anvil.

Bellows-Like Expandable Interbody Fusion Cage

An interbody fusion device having an accordion-like structure, wherein the device in inserted into the disc space in its collapsed configuration and then expanded into its expanded configuration by compressing the accordion-like portion of the device. In some embodiments, a pre-formed tube with an accordion-like structure over a portion of its length is inserted in a relaxed (collapsed) configuration, giving the tube a minimum possible diameter. This tube has a cable running through it that is fixed to a distal end portion of the tube and extends past the proximal end portion of the tube to the outside of the patient. Once the tube is positioned on the rim of the endplate, the proximal end of the cable is pulled, thereby tensioning the cable and causing the accordion portion of the tube to become shorter in length but larger in diameter.

TOTAL JOINT REPLACEMENT INFECTION CONTROL DEVICES AND METHODS

An orthopedic system for delivery of a therapeutic agent to a bone includes an elongate stem adapted to be inserted into an intramedullary canal, an inlet configured to receive the therapeutic agent, and one or more outlets configured to deliver the therapeutic agent to the bone. The elongate stem may comprise one or more protrusions to engage the bone, and one or more channels extending longitudinally therein, fluidly coupled to the inlet. The therapeutic agent flows from the inlet through the one or more channels and exits into the intramedullary canal through the one or more outlets. The system may be configured to allow one or more dimensions of the system to be adjusted to accommodate the anatomy of a patient.
