Leak-resistant underwear is provided. The leak-resistant underwear includes a gusset having a multi-layer construction. The multi-layer construction includes a sealed gusset assembly and a gusset portion of a body fabric. The sealed gusset assembly includes a next-to-skin layer, an absorbent layer, a blocking layer, polymer component. The absorbent layer is disposed between the next-to-skin layer and the blocking layer. The polymer component forms a seal between the next-to-skin layer and the blocking layer along at least a portion of respective perimeters of the next-to-skin layer and the blocking layer. The sealed gusset assembly is configured to be disposed between a wearer's skin and the gusset portion of the body fabric. In some cases, a portion of the perimeter of the gusset is sealed with a sealing tape.

An absorbent article has a basic functionality of a skin contact sheet present and configured on the surface of an absorber such that it rises therefrom, in which no positional displacement occurs at a crotch part and which effectively avoids contact between a wearer's skin and urine/feces. The absorbent article has: a leak preventer in sheet form; an absorber arranged above the leak preventer and capable of absorbing a bodily fluid in at least one layer; a skin contact member arranged above the absorber, between a front part of the leak preventer and a rear part of the leak preventer, and that makes contact with a wearer's skin and is spaced apart from the absorber at a time of use; and a connecting unit that couples a part of the skin contact member corresponding to a crotch part of the wearer with the absorber at the time of use.

Method for manufacturing absorbent articles including a discrete barrier member

A method for manufacturing an absorbent article including a topsheet, a backsheet, a core, a discrete barrier member, a first cuff, and a second cuff. A barrier substrate may be cut into a discrete barrier member including a leading edge portion, an opposing trailing edge portion, and a central portion therebetween. The discrete barrier substrate may be transferred onto a folding roll. A first cuff substrate and a second cuff substrate may be advanced onto the folding roll such that the discrete barrier substrate may be disposed on at least a portion of the first cuff substrate and the second cuff substrate. The discrete barrier member may include a fold between the leading edge portion and the trailing edge portion. A topsheet substrate may associate with at least a portion of the discrete barrier member, the first cuff substrate, and the second cuff substrate.

Absorbent article

An absorbent article comprising an absorbent core comprising absorbent material. The absorbent core is sandwiched between a liquid-permeable upper core cover layer and a lower core cover layer. The absorbent core has one or more elongated areas arranged therein, each elongated area being an absorbent material free area having a length as measured along the elongated area and a width. The upper core cover layer and the lower core cover layer in each of the one or more elongated absorbent material free areas are attached to each other within at least 2 attachment zones and at most 12 attachment zones, the attachment zones being spaced-apart in the longitudinal direction (Y) within each of the one or more absorbent material free areas.
