A pharmaceutical composition or a cosmetic composition for treating hair loss, or promoting hair growth is described. The composition according to the present invention exhibits an excellent effect of treating hair loss and promoting hair growth, and can be safely used regardless of sex and age.

Novel compounds able to absorb UV radiation and comprise antimicrobial properties as well. The compounds are novel and undisclosed scytonemin analogs, able to absorb up to 90% of UV-A radiation and can cover a broader UV to blue light absorption range from 293 nm to 500 nm. When mixtures of more than one compound are used, their synergetic absorption properties can cover an even broader spectrum within 293 nm to 500 nm. The compounds present faint coloration, and some are even colorless, therefor the present compounds can be easily incorporated in formulations to be used in cosmetic products, sunscreens or lenses for sunglasses.

The present invention is in the field of personal care compositions; in particular skin lightening compositions. A more effective way to reduce melanin content in melanocytes remains to be desired. It has been found that 4-hexylresorcinol in combination with MMP inhibitor galardin synergistically reduces melanin content in melanocytes. The invention thus relates to a composition comprising a synergistic combination of 4-hexylresorcinol and galardin for use in skin lightening. Thus the composition, when applied topically over an appropriate length of time in-vivo, may be used to lighten the skin, or to reduce age spots or freckles.

Described herein is a hair treatment composition for the hair. The hair treatment composition includes one or more fluorescent compounds and one or more additional ingredients. The one or more fluorescent compounds each include a fluorophore, one or two permanent cations, and one to four incipient cations. The one to four incipient cations are pendant to the core structure and are neutral. The invention relates to stable liquid neurotoxin formulations which are free of animal proteins, comprising a surfactant, an amino acid selected from tryptophan and tyrosine, a buffer comprising sodium, chloride and phosphate ions, which have a pH between 5.5 and 8, and which are stable for 2 months. These compositions are suitable for use in therapy and in particular for administration to a patient to achieve a desired therapeutic or aesthetic effect. The invention also relates to the use of an amino acid selected from tryptophan and tyrosine to protect a proteinaceous neurotoxin from degradation in a liquid composition which is free of animal derived proteins.
