Antimicrobial superabsorbent compositions
A composition has an enzyme that is able to convert a substrate to release hydrogen peroxide; a substrate for the enzyme; and a superabsorbent component, such as a superabsorbent polymer. The composition is in the form of a powder and may form a gel on contact with water.
THROMBIN-CARRYING HEMOSTATIC SHEET
Provided is a thrombin-carrying hemostatic sheet that is suitable for hemostasis during surgery, in particular, for hemostasis during spine surgery, that is convenient without preparation before use, and that is bioabsorbable and can be embedded in the body as it is. The hemostatic sheet is composed of a gelatin sponge carrying an effective amount of thrombin, wherein (A) the density is 30 to 55 mg/cm.sup.3, and (B) the shape maintaining angle in wet conditions is 55 to 120°.
HEMOSTATIC MICROSPHERES
Provided herein are hemostatic compositions. In one embodiment, the hemostatic composition includes cross-linked polymer microspheres, such as cross-linked gelatin microspheres with pores. In another embodiment, the hemostatic composition comprises an additive such as a wetting agent, a suspending agent, or both. The hemostatic compositions may also include a hemostatic agent such as thrombin, and may include a high concentration of thrombin. The hemostatic compositions may also include plasma. Also provided herein are devices for dispersing said hemostatic compositions in a diluent, and delivering said dispersed hemostatic composition. The hemostatic compositions may also fabricated with a selected geometry as administration suggests.
