Noninvasive cranial nerve therapy

The present invention relates to systems for providing noninvasive cranial nerve stimulation and methods for using the same. The present invention administers therapy through electrodes that are noninvasively attached to one or more of a subject's cranial nerve. The systems can be used to enhancing rehabilitation and recovery by improving neuroplasticity and coupling muscle training with feedback.

STIMULATION DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS

Described herein are noninvasive electrical stimulation devices, systems and methods for stimulation of the Vagus nerve through its auricular branch to provide beneficial physiological responses in subjects, including alleviation, mitigation or elimination of symptoms of various disorders, including metabolic and inflammatory disorders.

MOTOR LEARNING AND VAGUS NERVE STIMULATION (VNS) PAIRED WITH MOTOR LEARNING TO TREAT DEMYELINATING DISEASES, CONDITIONS AND DISORDERS
20220370804 · 2022-11-24 ·

Embodiments of the instant invention relate to applying motor learning to promote remyelination following demyelination in a subject having a condition or disease. In certain embodiments, applying motor learning alone or in combination with vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) induces the production of new and preserves surviving oligodendrocytes. In accordance with certain embodiments of the disclosure, motor learning, when properly timed, enhances oligodendrogenesis after injury and recruits mature oligodendrocytes to participate in remyelination through the generation of new myelin sheaths. In other aspects of the disclosure, VNS paired with motor learning enhances remyelination following demyelination.

Device and method for controlled and monitored transdermal delivery of active agents and use thereof

An iontophoretic patch for transdermal delivery of biologically active agents includes at least two electrodes in contact with at least two hydrogel reservoirs. At least one of the hydrogel reservoirs carries at least one active agent and, in use of the iontophoretic patch, is disposed on a user's skin and delivers at least one active agent into the skin. The patch includes a control unit to generate a stimulation pattern having stimulation parameters delivered to stimuli locations on the skin. A stimulation unit generates a time sequence of pulses from the stimulation parameters generated by the control unit. The patch further includes a demultiplexing unit configured to perform independent spatio-temporal distribution of the electrical pulses in the time sequence of pulses to at least one electrode; at least one optical sensing system, for continuously measuring an amount of the active agent in the hydrogel reservoir; and a feedback unit.

A device and method for providing mechanical ventilation of a user is described. In an embodiment the device comprises at least two metallic coils, each coil configured to be placed adjacent to a phrenic nerve of the user; and a stimulation unit for providing an electric current to the metallic coils, and wherein the current stimulates the phrenic nerve to induce tetanic contractions of a diaphragm muscle of the user to regulate the user's breathing. This provides a ventilation whilst reducing the rehabilitation time post ventilation for a user due to lower muscle wasting of the diaphragm.
