SYSTEM AND METHODS TO DELIVER HYPERPOLARIZING WAVEFORM
In some embodiments, a method of providing a neurostimulation therapy to a patient, comprises: generating electrical pulses, by an implantable pulse generator (IPG), comprising respective bursts of a plurality of anodic pulses with each anodic pulse being separated by a time gap, wherein (1) the plurality of anodic pulses comprise successively increasing charge; (2) the plurality of anodic pulses are charge limited to be sub-threshold; (3) each burst of anodic pulses is followed by a discharge phase of intermittent time periods to discharge charge build up from the anodic pulses; and (4) each successive intermittent time period increases in time through the discharge phase to avoid action potential (AP) generation; and applying the generated electrical pulses to neural tissue of the patient to inhibit neural activity of the patient.
Programmable external control unit
A medical device control unit is provided. The control unit may include a communications interface, a memory, and at least one processing device. The processing device may be configured to cause application of a control signal to a primary antenna associated with a unit external to a subject's body. The processing device may further be configured to monitor a feedback signal indicative of the subject's breathing and store, in the memory, information associated with the feedback signal. The processing device may also cause transmission of the stored information, via the communications interface, to a location remote from the control unit. The processing device may further be configured to receive an update signal, from the location remote from the control unit, and cause application of an updated control signal to the primary antenna based on the update signal.
Obstructive sleep apnea patient programmer for implantable devices
An implantable neurostimulator system including an electrical lead having formed thereon a pair of bipolar electrodes, the electrical lead is configured for placement of the pair of bipolar electrodes proximate protrusor muscles of a patient. The system also includes a pulse generator electrically connected to the electrical lead and configured to deliver electrical energy to the pair of bipolar electrodes, the pulse generator having mounted therein a sensor configured to detect one or more physiological parameters, a memory, a control circuit, and a telemetry circuit. The system also including a communications telemetry module (CTM) in communication with the telemetry circuit and configured to receive a data collected by the sensor and data related to delivery of electrical energy to the bipolar electrodes, and an external programmer in communication with the CTM and configured to display a user interface the data collected by the sensor and data related to delivery of electrical energy to the bipolar electrodes.
Remote Follow-Up of Neurostimulation System
A method for remote programming a therapy device for neurostimulation comprises: generating a stimulation program for the therapy device by means of a clinician programmer; transferring the stimulation program to a patient programmer; loading the stimulation program on the therapy device from the patient programmer; and increasing a stimulation amplitude of the stimulation program by means of the patient programmer. An initial stimulation amplitude setting of the stimulation program is limited to a minimal dose amplitude.
Device and method for snoring detection and control
A device for the treatment of snoring is provided. The device may include a flexible substrate configured for removable attachment to a subject's skin, a primary antenna disposed on the flexible substrate, an interface configured to receive a feedback signal that varies based upon a breathing pattern of the subject; and at least one processing device. The processing device may be configured to analyze the feedback signal and determine whether the subject is snoring based on the analysis of the feedback signal, and if snoring is detected, cause a hypoglossal nerve modulation control signal to be applied to the primary antenna in order to wirelessly transmit the hypoglossal nerve modulation control signal to a secondary antenna associated with an implant unit configured for location in a body of the subject.
Electrical stimulator for treatment of back pain and methods of use
Apparatus and methods for treating back pain are provided, in which an implantable stimulator is configured to communicate with an external control system, the implantable stimulator providing a neuromuscular electrical stimulation therapy designed to cause muscle contraction to rehabilitate the muscle, restore neural drive and restore spinal stability; the implantable stimulator further including one or more of a number of additional therapeutic modalities, including a module that provides analgesic stimulation; a module that monitors muscle performance and adjusts the muscle stimulation regime; and/or a module that provides longer term pain relief by selectively and repeatedly ablating nerve fibers. In an alternative embodiment, a standalone implantable RF ablation system is described.
Neuromodulation to Modulate Glymphatic Clearance
The present invention provides materials and methods for using electrical stimulation to treat a mammal having a proteinopathy (e.g., neurodegenerative diseases) or at risk of developing a proteinopathy are provided. For example, the present invention provides materials and methods for modulating glymphatic clearance (e.g., enhancing glymphatic clearance) of pathogenic proteins.
REINFORCEMENT LEARNING BASED CLOSED-LOOP NEUROMODULATION SYSTEM
The neuromodulation system includes a sensor, a recording amplifier, a processor, and a stimulator. The neuromodulation system is configured to provide stimulation and control of an intended target. The processor utilizes a closed-loop feedback system which is configured to actively sense target brain states and apply corrective stimulation or feedback as dictated by its effectors. The processor implements reinforcement learning which creates real-time statistical models of current and recent past neural states which actively and automatically learns stimulation paradigms which create paths from pathological to nominal brain states.
Methods and devices for activating brown adipose tissue using electrical energy
Methods and devices are provided for activating brown adipose tissue (BAT) using electrical energy. In general, the methods and devices can facilitate activation of BAT to increase thermogenesis. The BAT can be activated by applying an electrical signal thereto that can be configured to target sympathetic nerves that can directly innervate the BAT. The electrical signal can be configured to target the sympathetic nerves using fiber diameter selectivity. In other words, the electrical signal can be configured to activate nerve fibers having a first diameter without activating nerve fibers having diameters different than the first diameter. Sympathetic nerves include postganglionic unmyelinated, small diameter fibers, while parasympathetic nerves that can directly innervate BAT include preganglionic myelinated, larger diameter fibers. The electrical signal can be configured to target and activate the postganglionic unmyelinated, small diameter fibers without activating the preganglionic myelinated, larger diameter fibers.
