11260235 · 2022-03-01 · ·

The present invention relates to a system for communicating an operational state of a neuronal stimulation apparatus to an individual, comprising: means for determining the operational state of the apparatus; means for transmitting a first neuronal stimulation signal to a neuronal stimulation means of the individual adapted to elicit a sensory percept in the cortex of the individual, wherein the first neuronal stimulation signal is indicative of the operational state of the apparatus. The present invention further relates to a method and computer program comprising the steps of: determining the operational state of the apparatus, transmitting a neuronal stimulation signal to a neuronal stimulation means of the individual adapted to elicit a sensory percept in the cortex of the individual, wherein the first neuronal stimulation signal is indicative of the determined operational state of the apparatus.

Implantable medical device with dual-use communication module

An implantable medical device comprises a communication module that comprises at least one of a receiver module and a transmitter module. The receiver module is configured to both receive from an antenna and demodulate an RF telemetry signal, and receive from a plurality of electrodes and demodulate a tissue conduction communication (TCC) signal. The transmitter module is configured to modulate and transmit both an RF telemetry signal via the antenna and a TCC signal via the plurality of electrodes. The RF telemetry signal and the TCC signal are both within a predetermined band for RF telemetry communication. In some examples, the IMD comprises a switching module configured to selectively couple one of the plurality of electrodes and the antenna to the receiver module or transmitter module.

An implantable pacemaker has a first housing and a second housing tethered to the first housing by an elongated electrical conductor. The elongated electrical conductor has a proximal end coupled to the first housing and a distal end coupled to the second housing and includes a signal line configured to carry an electrical signal between the first housing and the second housing.

MANAGING TELEMETRY COMMUNICATION MODES OF AN IMPLANTABLE DEVICE

Systems, apparatus, methods and computer-readable storage media facilitating management of operation of an implantable medical device (“IMD”) using a number of communication modes are provided. An IMD is configured to operate in a disabled mode wherein radio frequency (RF) telemetry communication is disabled, or operate in a first advertising mode using the RF telemetry communication. The IMD receives a clinician session request from a clinician device via an induction telemetry protocol while operating in the disabled mode or the first advertising mode, and transitions to operating from the disabled mode or the first advertising mode to operating in a second advertising mode based on receiving the clinician session request. From the second advertising mode, the IMD can establish a clinician telemetry session with the clinician device using the RF telemetry communication and a unique security mechanism facilitated by an identifier for the clinician device included in the clinician session request.

A transvenously implantable medical device (TIMD) includes an electrical lead and a control module. The electrical lead includes one or more electrodes and is adapted for transvenous implantation. The electrical lead is also pre-biased to expand from a collapsed state to an expanded state to mechanically engage an internal wall of a blood vessel. The control module is secured to and in electrical communication with the electrical lead. The control module includes a signal management component and a power component disposed in a housing adapted for implantation into the blood vessel. The control module is adapted for at least one of stimulating and sensing a physiologic response using the one or more electrodes of the electrical lead.

ASYSTOLE DETECTION AND RESPONSE IN AN IMPLANTABLE CARDIOVERTER DEFIBRILLATOR

An implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) receives a cardiac electrical signal by a sensing circuit while operating in a sensing without pacing mode and detects asystole based on the cardiac electrical signal. The ICD determines, in response to detecting the asystole, if asystole backup pacing is enabled, and automatically switches to a temporary pacing mode in response to the asystole backup pacing being enabled. Other examples of detecting asystole and providing a response to detecting asystole by the ICD are described herein.

IMPLANTABLE MEDICAL DEVICES AND METHODS FOR REAL-TIME OR NEAR REAL-TIME ADJUSTMENT OF DIAPHRAGMATIC STIMULATION PARAMETERS TO AFFECT PRESSURES WITHIN THE INTRATHORACIC CAVITY

A controller detects a cyclic cardiac event of the patient based on a signal obtained from one or more electrodes configured for placement on or near a diaphragm, and delivers an electrical stimulation therapy to a diaphragm of the patient through the one or more electrodes. The delivery of electrical stimulation therapy is timed to the detection of the cyclic cardiac event, and the electrical stimulation therapy is defined by stimulation parameters. The controller monitors a pressure associated with the intrathoracic cavity of the patient based on a signal provided by a pressure measurement source configured to provide a signal indicative of a pressure within an intrathoracic cavity, to determine whether an adjustment of one or more of the stimulation parameters is warranted.

CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIA TREATMENT DEVICES AND DELIVERY

Systems, methods and devices to facilitate insertion of a lead for cardiac therapy into an intercostal space associated with the cardiac notch of a patient are described including devices, methods and medical procedure templates to facilitate insertion proximate to a lateral margin of the patient's sternum.

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR CARDIAC PACING AND RESYNCHRONIZATION

Devices and methods can be used for artificial cardiac pacing and/or resynchronization. For example, this document provides improved electrodes for stimulating and sensing electrical activity of the heart, and provides pacing and resynchronization systems incorporating such electrodes. While the devices and methods provided herein are described primarily in the context of pacing, it should be understood that resynchronization can additionally or alternatively be performed in an analogous manner, and that the scope of this disclosure includes such subject matter.

Implant recharger handshaking system and method

Systems, methods, and devices for wireless recharging of an implanted device. In response to receiving identification information from an implanted device, a charger can set an electrical field to a first field strength and receive first field strength information from the implanted device. The charger can then set the electrical field to a second field strength and receive second field strength information from the implanted device. This information relating to the first and second field strengths can be used to determine whether to recharge the implanted device.
