SPINAL MOTION RESTORATION
Disclosed are systems, devices, methods and surgical procedures for altering and/or correcting the alignment of adjacent bones, including bones of the spine.
Minimally Invasive Shoulder Implant and Method
A method of implanting a prosthetic stemless shoulder implant may include making an incision into a patient's shoulder area of a patient and passing a cutting instrument through a rotator cuff interval of the patient. A central portion of the native humeral head may be resected and removed so that a central void remains. The same or another cutting instrument may be inserted through the rotator cuff interval and into the central void. Medial and lateral portions of the native humeral head adjacent the central void may be resected and removed. A base of a prosthesis may be implanted into a proximal portion of the humerus after passing the base through the rotator cuff interval, and two humeral head portions may be inserted through the rotator cuff interval and coupled to the base and to one another.
Posterior total joint replacement
A prosthetic system for implantation between upper and lower vertebrae comprises an upper joint component. The upper joint component comprises an upper contact surface and an upper articulation surface. The system further includes a lower joint component. The lower joint component comprises a lower contact surface and a lower articulation surface configured to movably engage the upper articulation surface to form an articulating joint. The articulating joint is adapted for implantation within a disc space between the upper and lower vertebrae, allowing the upper and lower vertebrae to move relative to one another. The system further includes a bridge component extending posteriorly from one of either the upper or lower joint components and from the disc space. The bridge component has a distal end opposite the one of the either upper or lower joint components. The distal end of the bridge component comprises a connection component adapted to receive a fastener.
DEVICES AND METHODS FOR ALTERING SPINAL LATERAL CURVATURE
Disclosed are systems, devices, methods and surgical procedures for altering and/or correcting the alignment of adjacent bones, including bones of the spine.
ARTIFICIAL INTERVERTEBRAL DISC
This invention concerns an artificial intervertebral disc for installation in an intervertebral space between adjacent vertebral bodies. The artificial intervertebral disc prosthesis comprises an upper plate, a lower plate and a mobile core element, which is, in use, located between the upper and lower plates. The mobile core element includes a first contoured surface that has a flexion/extension radius that is larger by a determined amount than the radius of its second contoured surface that results in an instantaneous centre of rotation below the midline of the intervertebral disc space, thereby approximating the typical instantaneous centre of rotation of a natural disc. The first contoured surface of the mobile core element has a lateral bending radius that is unequal to the value of the flexion/extension radius, thereby allowing the mobile core element to self-centre on the second surface of the upper plate when under preload. The mobile core element may further be compressible and may include a resilient element located within the mobile core element. Deformation of the resilient element may be contained to obtain an exponential increase in spring stiffness of the resilient element during compression.
ACETABULAR PROSTHESIS INCLUDING MODULAR COMPONENTS AND METHOD
An acetabular orthopaedic prosthesis and method are disclosed. The acetabular orthopaedic prosthesis includes a shell configured to engage a surgically-prepared surface of a patient's acetabulum. The shell includes one or more mounting holes that extend through the inner surface and the outer surface. A plurality of plugs are configured to be coupled to the shell, and each plug is sized to be positioned in at least one of the mounting holes of the shell. A bone screw is configured to be inserted through one of the plurality of plugs into the surgically-prepared surface to secure the shell to the patient's acetabulum.
Posterior total joint replacement
A prosthetic system for implantation between upper and lower vertebrae having an upper joint component and a lower joint component. The joint is adapted for implantation within a disc space between the upper and lower vertebrae, allowing the upper and lower vertebrae to move relative to one another. The system further includes a bridge component extending posteriorly from the lower joint component and from the disc space, with the bridge component having a lower contact surface configured for engaging a resected bone surface of a pedicle of the lower vertebrae. The distal end of the bridge component comprises a connection component adapted to receive a fastener.
