REUSABLE SYRINGE ASSEMBLY INCLUDING RETRACTABLE PROTECTIVE SHIELDING FRAME
The present invention involves a sterilizable syringe allows for reduction in needlestick injuries using conventional sterile needles. The syringe allows for direct access to and the safe removal and disposal of needles. The device consists of a sterilizable, reusable hypodermic syringe to which a disposable needle is attached, and employs carpules containing injectable medication, viewable and either manually or automatically aspirating. Some embodiments have a protective sliding mechanism consisting of an open frame bearing one or more protective collars, one at the furthermost end of the frame and an optional second one at a more proximal position. The protective mechanism may be extended to protect an exposed needle tip and retracted during an injection. With the protective mechanism extended, the needle mounting hub is exposed to allow for its exchange or removal and safe disposal. The protective mechanism is engaged until immediately prior to the delivery of medication, disengaged on delivery, and engaged after delivery.
Needle Cover Assembly
The present invention relates to a needle cover assembly to be used with a medicament delivery device, wherein said needle cover assembly (10) is disposable and comprises a retainer element (50) connectable to the medicament container holder; a hub (16) having a longitudinal axis and comprising a double pointed injection needle (22) with a proximal needle end (24) and a distal needle end (48), wherein the proximal needle end projects a distance from the hub (16) along the longitudinal axis, and a shield (18) covering at least the proximal needle end and a portion of the hub (16). The invention is characterised in that said shield (18) comprises a detachable element (26), that the shield (18) is attached to the hub (16) when said detachable element (26) is attacked to the shield (18), corresponding to an untampered state, and that the shield is released and is telescopically movable in relation to the hub (16) along the longitudinal axis when said detachable element (26) is detached from the shield (18) corresponding to an activated state.
Systems and methods for performing an injection
Devices, systems, and methods for performing injections with lowered likelihood of infection include catheters and other injection means with protective coverings. The protective covering can protect the catheter or other injection means before, during, or before and during insertion of the catheter into an insertion site. The protective covering includes two or more parts of interlocking protrusions and channels that allow for sliding motion of the parts relative each other but that resist separation of the parts in the direction perpendicular to the long axis of the two or more parts.
Medical Syringe
A safety syringe for medical use having an injection molded plastic body with a tubular barrel, a transverse finger flange surrounding the barrel and two upwardly projecting wings with substantially flat, outwardly facing surfaces disposed forwardly of the finger flange, a plunger assembly slidably engaging an inside wall of the barrel, a needle with a tip projecting forwardly from the barrel, and a needle safety shield slidably engaging the body between the wings, wherein the transverse finger flange has a window that allows core pin insertion through the window during injection molding of the body, the plunger assembly has a proximal end cap that is integral with the plunger handle and abuts a rearwardly facing surface of the transverse finger flange, and the needle safety shield has a distal end with a cylindrical needle guard that is forwardly movable following use of the syringe to guard the needle tip.
SEGMENTED SAFETY COVER FOR NEEDLE DELIVERY
A segmented safety cover may include a proximal segment combined with a needle hub; a needle cannula that extends from the proximal needle hub to a distal sharpened end; a distal end cap with a hollow bore through which the needle cannula passes; a centrally mounted toggle locking mechanism, separating the proximal needle hub from the distal end cap; the toggle locking mechanism is torsion spring assisted; a proximal cover segment is connected to the hub via a proximal hinge and a distal cover segment is connected to the end cap via a distal hinge; said proximal cover segment and said distal cover segment of said toggle locking mechanism being configured with abutting faces when the segmented safety cover is in a safety mode; and wherein the proximal hinge, abutting faces and distal hinge are in line in the safe mode.
