Headache treatment methods are described and include providing, an energy delivery device; locating a secondary or higher-order branch of a postganglionic nerve that provides innervation for a patient's head, by identifying a target region of the patient's head that includes the nerve branch; positioning, within the target region, a portion of the energy delivery device; and applying, from the positioned portion of the energy delivery device to the target region, an amount of energy effective to result in a stimulation activity of the nerve branch; and, after observing the stimulated nerve branch activity, delivering, from the energy delivery device to the nerve branch, energy in an amount effective to reduce a headache severity in the patient.

Headsets for positioning electronic devices

A headset for positioning an electronic device against a head of a patient includes a flexible frame configured to surround a portion of the head, the flexible frame defining an interior channel and an exterior slot, a curved structure configured to grasp an ear of the patient, the curved structure being movable within the interior channel of the flexible frame for accommodating a size of the head, and a mount including a support base to which the electronic device can be attached, the mount being slidable along the exterior slot of the flexible frame to position the electronic device along the head.

Dual prophylactic and abortive electrical stimulation

Prophylactic stimulation and abortive electrical stimulation are delivered to a cranial nerve, including, e.g. an occipital or trigeminal nerve to treat symptoms of various conditions, including, e.g. occipital neuralgia or migraines.

Apparatus and method for treating headaches

The present disclosure generally relates to a system for treating headaches and other pain associated with the occipital nerves. More particularly, the disclosure relates to a system of treating pain by selectively activating specific nerve fibers with a single, fault-resistant contact situated proximate to, but not in direct contact with, portions of one or more the occipital nerves. Additional measures ensure the lead does not migrate or fracture, resulting in long-lasting pain relief.

Method and system for treating neural disorders

A method for treating neural disorders is provided. The method includes the following operation. A stimulation is delivered to a layer of a cortex of a patient with a neural disorder, wherein the stimulation is delivered to less than all layers of the cortex of the patient. In another method for treating neural disorders, a stimulation is delivered to a cortex of a patient with a neural disorder, wherein the stimulation delivered to one of a plurality of layers of the cortex is stronger than to other layers of the cortex. The system for treating neural disorder is also provided. The system includes a stimulation signal generator and a layer-specific stimulation means. The layer-specific stimulation means is coupled to the stimulation signal generator, configured to deliver a stimulation to a specific layer of a cortex of a patient with a neural disorder.

A system includes processing circuitry configured to determine, for each electrode combination of a plurality of electrode combinations, a metric based on a sensed electrical signal from the electrode combination. The processing circuitry is further configured to determine, for each electrode of a plurality of electrodes, a subset of electrode combinations of the plurality of electrode combinations, each electrode combination of the subset of electrode combinations comprising the electrode, wherein the subset of electrode combinations comprises at least two electrode combinations. The processing circuitry is further configured to determine, for each electrode of the plurality of electrodes, a composite metric based on the metrics of the subset of electrode combinations. The processing circuitry is further configured to determine, select, based on the composite metrics of the plurality of electrodes, at least one electrode for at least one of sensing electrical signals or delivering electrical stimulation.

A device is provided for stimulating neurons that includes an implantable stimulation unit that generates stimuli in multiple stimulation elements. The stimulation unit generates the stimuli to stimulate a neuron population in the brain and/or spinal cord of a patient using the stimulation elements. Moreover, the device includes a control unit that controls the stimulation unit to repeatedly generates sequences of the stimuli with the order of the stimulation elements in which stimuli are generated within a sequence being constant for 20 or more successively generated sequences before it is varied.

In certain variations, systems and/or methods for electromagnetic induction therapy are provided. One or more ergonomic or body contoured applicators may be included. The applicators include one or more conductive coils configured to generate an electromagnetic or magnetic field focused on a target nerve, muscle or other body tissues positioned in proximity to the coil. One or more sensors may be utilized to detect stimulation and to provide feedback about the efficacy of the applied electromagnetic induction therapy. A controller may be adjustable to vary a current through a coil to adjust the magnetic field focused upon the target nerve, muscle or other body tissues based on the feedback provide by a sensor or by a patient. In certain systems or methods, pulsed magnetic fields may be intermittently applied to a target nerve, muscle or tissue without causing habituation.
