Systems and methods for selective memory enhancement and/or disruption
Systems and methods are disclosed for selectively reinforcing or weakening memory associations. At least one current generator provides an electrical current including a plurality of oscillating pulses with at least one predetermined frequency. A user interface includes at least one output device for delivering a sensory stimulus to a user and at least one user input device for registering a response to the stimulus. At least one processor determines from the response, based on at least one predetermined standard, whether an underlying memory association is desired or undesired and respectively sets the at least one predetermined frequency to be a beta or theta frequency. Consequently, the electrical current is generated and administered, via at least one electrode pair, thereby stimulating at least one specific portion of the user's brain so as to reinforce or weaken the underlying memory association.

An implantable vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) system includes a sensor configured to measure ECG data for a patient, a stimulation subsystem configured to deliver VNS to the patient, and a control system configured to perform a heart rate variability analysis with the ECG data. In some aspects, performing the heart rate variability analysis includes measuring R-R intervals between successive R-waves for the ECG data measured during a stimulation period of VNS therapy and a baseline period of the VNS therapy, wherein the stimulation period comprises at least a portion of the ON period and the baseline period comprises at least a portion of the OFF period immediately preceding the ON period, and generating a plot of each R-R interval against an immediately successive R-R interval for each of the stimulation period and the baseline period configured to be displayed on a display.
NON-REGULAR ELECTRICAL STIMULATION PATTERNS FOR TREATING NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS
Systems and methods for stimulation of neurological tissue and generation stimulation trains with temporal patterns of stimulation, in which the interval between electrical pulses (the inter-pulse intervals) changes or varies over time. The features of the stimulation trains may be selected and arranged algorithmically to by clinical trial. These stimulation trains are generated to target a specific neurological disorder, by arranging sets of features which reduce symptoms of that neurological disorder into a pattern which is effective at reducing those symptoms while maintaining or reducing power consumption versus regular stimulation signals. Compared to conventional continuous, high rate pulse trains having regular (i.e., constant) inter-pulse intervals, the non-regular (i.e., not constant) pulse patterns or trains that embody features of the invention provide increased efficacy and/or a lower than average frequency.
NEUROMODULATION SYSTEM
A neuromodulation system including at least one input module for inputting a planned neuromodulation event or a series of neuromodulation events and at least one analyzing module for analyzing a neuromodulation event or a series of neuromodulation events.
The analyzing module and the input module may be connected such that the input module is configured to forward the planned neuromodulation event or a series of neuromodulation events to the analyzing module and the analyzing module is configured to analyze the planned neuromodulation event or a series of neuromodulation events regarding one or more possible neuromodulation conflict(s).
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR RESTORING COLOR PERCEPTION TO THE BLIND
A system and method are disclosed for causing or enhancing the perception of color in a blind or visually impaired person. The system may comprise: an electromagnetic stimulation device associated with the blind or visually impaired person; and a visualization device for receiving an image and detecting a color of an object in the image, wherein the electromagnetic stimulation device is configured to stimulate the blind or visually impaired person based on a parameter of electromagnetic stimulation that varies based on the color detected by the visualization device. The method may comprise: varying a parameter of electromagnetic stimulation of an electromagnetic stimulation device, associated with an eye of the blind or visually impaired person, based on which color is detected by a visualization device that is used in conjunction with the electromagnetic stimulation device; and stimulating the eye with the electromagnetic stimulation device according to the parameter of electromagnetic stimulation.
SELECTION OF PARAMETERS FOR ELECTRICAL STIMULATION
Devices, systems, and techniques for controlling electrical stimulation therapy are described. In one example, a system may include processing circuitry configured to control a medical device to deliver a first electrical stimulation according to a first value of a first stimulation parameter of the plurality of stimulation parameters and a first value of a second parameter of the plurality of stimulation parameters, receive an input representative of an efficacy of the first electrical stimulation delivered to the patient according to the first value of the first stimulation parameter and the first value of the second parameter, select, based on the input and the relationship between the plurality of stimulation parameters, a second value of at least one of the first stimulation parameter or the second stimulation parameter, and control the medical device to deliver a second electrical stimulation according to the second value.
