SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING A RECIPIENT OF AN IMPLANTABLE SENSORY PROSTHESIS
An apparatus includes a housing configured to be implanted in or on a recipient. The apparatus further includes circuitry within the housing, the circuitry including at least one storage device configured to store at least one secret. The circuitry is configured to generate, using the at least one secret, at least one code corresponding to the at least one secret and to transmit at least one stimulation signal to the recipient, the at least one stimulation signal indicative of the at least one code.
REMOTE TITRATION OF NEUROSTIMULATION THERAPY
Systems and methods for creating, maintaining, and remotely modifying stimulation settings for a neuromodulation therapy are discussed. An exemplary system includes an implantable stimulator to provide electrostimulation via a lead comprising a plurality of electrodes, and a programming device. The programming device identifies a search space of electrode configurations and parameter values for the lead, and determines, based on a clinical response indicator under a first patient state, at least one base stimulation setting including an optimal electrode configuration and an optimal stimulation parameter value from the identified search space. The system includes a remotely controlled therapy titration device that can modify the base stimulation setting under a second patient state based on an evaluation of a modified clinical response indicator. The modified base stimulation setting may be stored in the memory, or used by the implantable stimulator to deliver electrostimulation.
Recharging power sources of implantable medical devices
In some examples, a medical device system includes a first implantable medical device. The first implantable medical device (IMD) may comprise circuitry configured to at least one of deliver a therapy to a patient or sense a physiological signal from the patient; generate stimulation deliverable to a patient; a first rechargeable power source; and a secondary coil coupled to the first rechargeable power source, the secondary coil configured to charge the first rechargeable power source via inductive coupling with a primary coil of an external charging device. The medical device system may comprise processing circuitry configured to control charging of the first rechargeable power source based on a charge state of a second rechargeable power source of a second IMD.
IMPLANTABLE MEDICAL DEVICE AND METHOD FOR MANAGING ADVERTISING AND SCANNING SCHEDULES
A method and device for managing establishment of a communications link between an external instrument (EI) and an implantable medical device (IMD) are provided. The method stores, in a memory in at least one of the IMD or the EI, a base scanning schedule that defines a pattern for scanning windows over a scanning state. The method enters the scanning state during which a receiver scans for advertisement notices during the scanning windows. At least a portion of the scanning windows are grouped in a first segment of the scanning state. The method stores, in the memory, a scan reset pattern for restarting the scanning state. Further, the method automatically restarts the scanning state based on the scan reset pattern to form a pseudo-scanning schedule that differs from the base scanning schedule and establishes a communication session between the IMD and the EI.
Recharge of implanted medical devices
Systems, devices and methods are disclosed that allow recharging a power source located in an implanted medical device implanted in a patient, the recharging device comprising first and second pairs of electrical coils configured to generate first and second uniform magnetic fields in overlapping first and second cylindrical regions located between the respective pairs of electrical coils.
Adjustment of advertising interval in communications between an implantable medical device and an external device
An advertising algorithm is disclosed which operates in an Implantable Medical Device (IMD) to adjust an interval at which the IMD will transmit advertising data packets to an external device able to connect with the IMD. When a communication session between the IMD and an external device is terminated, the advertising algorithm will issue advertising data packets at a higher rate for a set duration. This will allow the external device to connect more quickly with the IMD in a next communication session. After the set duration, when it may be assumed that the external device is less likely to connect with the IMD, the algorithm reduces that rate at which advertising data packets are issued, which saves power in the IMD.
OBESITY TREATMENT
An apparatus for treating obesity comprises a volume filling device formed by at least two segments and is provided and following implantation, the device is placed resting against the stomach wall of the patient to reduce the inner volume of the stomach, thereby affecting the patients appetite.
REVERSIBLE MAGNETS
A magnetic connection can be formed between a magnet set of a first device and magnet set of a second device. The magnetic strength of the magnetic connection can be modified by changing an orientation of a magnet set of a first device from a first orientation to a second orientation. The magnet set or a case in which the magnet set is disposed can be asymmetric, such that alternating between the first and second orientations results in different magnetic connections.
Adapting to wireless proximal communication signal distortion between devices
Devices that communicate using wireless proximal communications measure pulse width to find distortion in the received signal. The distortion may be due to the devices being too close to one another for a transmission power level currently being used which causes ringing of a receiving coil. The distortion may be used to find a correction that the receiving device may use to correct for the distortion in the received pulse train when decoding the pulse train. The distortion may be used to adjust a transmission power level of the receiving device and/or to send an instruction to the transmitting device to adjust the power transmission power level of the transmitting device. The distortion may be used for other purposes including determining a device depth and/or location for an implanted device, such as an implantable medical device within a body of a patient.
Optimization of application of current
An apparatus includes an implant that includes circuitry and an elongate housing having a first half and a second half. A paresthesia-inducing electrode is disposed on the first half, and a blocking electrode is disposed on the second half. The circuitry has a first mode in which the circuitry simultaneously drives the paresthesia-inducing electrode to apply a paresthesia-inducing current having a frequency of 2-400 Hz, and the blocking electrode to apply a blocking current having a frequency of 1-20 kHz, and a second mode in which the circuitry drives the blocking electrode to apply the blocking current, but does not drive the paresthesia-inducing electrode to apply the paresthesia-inducing current. The implant is injectable into a subject along a longitudinal axis of the implant. Other embodiments are also described.
