Systems, devices and methods for affixing soft tissue to bone
A system for fastening soft tissue to bone includes a bone screw having a threaded shaft and a screw head having an underside with malleable protuberances that project toward a distal end of the threaded shaft. A fixation plate is coupled with the threaded shaft. The fixation plate has a proximal face that opposes the underside of the screw head, a distal face that faces away from the underside of the screw head, an outer peripheral edge that extends between the proximal and distal faces, a central opening for receiving the threaded shaft, and protrusions spaced from one another around the outer peripheral edge that extend distally beyond the distal face of the fixation plate. The system includes an insertion tool having a handle and a tubular shaft extending distally from the handle. The tubular shaft has a proximal shaft section having an inner diameter that closely matches an outer diameter of the screw head, and a distal shaft section having an inner surface with a groove that seats the outer peripheral edge of the fixation plate for releasable retaining the fixation plate within the distal shaft section.
SURGICAL BONE SCREW METHOD AND APPARATUS
A bone screw cutting system can include a cutting assembly having a plurality of blades. The system can further include a position adjustment assembly coupled to the cutting assembly and configured to receive a bone screw blank and position the bone screw blank relative to the cutting assembly. The cutting assembly is configured to cut a bone screw blank received by the position adjustment assembly and to form a self-tapping end portion at a cut end of a resulting cut bone screw.
Bone screw and self-retaining driver
Techniques disclosed herein include systems and methods for a bone screw and self-retaining driver. The system includes a mechanism that enables a bone screw to be rigidly attached to a screwdriver for manipulation and transfer of bone fragments and grafts to a fixation site, such as during surgery. The system includes a cannulated bone screw that has a drive connection that engages with a drive structures of a screwdriver. The bone screw also includes a structural connector that securely attaches to or receives an internal shaft or rod of the screwdriver. The internal shaft or rod of the screwdriver can rotate and slide independent of an outer shaft of screwdriver. Accordingly, the internal shaft of the screwdriver can rigidly connect with the bone screw enabling applied torque to the screwdriver to be transferred to the bone screw, without the bone screw falling off of the drive connection.
PUSH-OFF DRIVER AND METHOD FOR INSERTING BONE SCREWS
A method and device for inserting screws into a patient, such that when the device is removed the device does not stick to the screw. The device, being a push-off driver, may have a handle, an inner driver, and a threaded driver sleeve having a button mechanism and a plurality of spheres, and an inner sleeve. The method includes the steps of assembling a push-off driver attaching a bone screw to the push-off driver inserting the bone screw and detaching the bone screw from the driver by unthreading the threaded driver sleeve from the polyaxial screw which causes the spheres in the recess of the inner driver to back up against the start of the recess and causing the threaded driver sleeve to push-off the polyaxial screw from the inner driver.
Bone implant
A system and method for forming a hip implant offering minimal invasiveness is described. The system comprises means for positioning the implant under optical and X-ray control, an implant and an applicator for screwing and expanding the implant. The implant includes an insert body and an expansion tube with cut-outs and slits defining legs. The legs expand radially through windows in the insert body when the expansion tube is pushed against the sloped distal portion of the insert body. The expansion process may be ensured by using an anti-rotation device to prevent the insertion tube from rotating within the insert body. Applicator and implant are provided with means preventing cold welding during the implantation process.
Retractor with modular tap assemblies
A retractor assembly includes a base, a first side assembly coupled to a first side of the base and configured to translate relative to the base along a first direction, a first tap assembly coupled to the first side assembly and configured to threadingly engage bone, a second side assembly coupled to a second side of the base and configured to translate relative to the base along the first direction independent from the first side assembly, a second tap assembly coupled to the second side assembly and configured to threadingly engage bone, and a center assembly coupled to a center portion of the base. At least a portion of the center assembly is configured to translate relative to the base along a second direction different from the first direction.
Bone anchor
A bone anchor includes an anchor member including a first material, and having a tubular section extending along a longitudinal axis, a region configured to expand radially outwards from the longitudinal axis, and a bone engagement structure projecting from at least a portion of the expandable region of the tubular section, and a core member including a second material, and configured for insertion into and connection to the anchor member. When the core member is in the anchor member and is actuated relative to the anchor member, the tubular section is adjustable between a first position where the expandable region of the tubular member has a first length and a first maximum diameter, to a second position where the expandable region of the tubular member has a length shorter than the first length and a maximum diameter greater than the first maximum diameter.
Self-Holding Screw Head
A screw insertion system has a screw having a threaded shaft and a head. The head has a conically tapered outer surface, the taper increasing in distance from a central longitudinal axis of the screw from a free end of the head towards a larger diameter adjacent the connection between the head and the threaded shaft. The conically tapered head outer surface has preferably two helically extending partially rounded threads. The head has a drive element for engaging a driver. A tubular screw holder has an outer surface and internal bore extending between a leading end and a trailing end for receiving the screw. The leading end having a conically tapered inner threaded portion for engaging the conically tapered outer thread of the screw head. The tubular screw holder outer surface having a diameter less than or equal to the maximum diameter of the conically tapered head.
Extended tab reinforcement sleeve
A sleeve can be adapted to reinforce a bone anchor, and can include a body, a lock, and an actuator. The body can include a first sleeve arm and a second sleeve arm, where each can extend longitudinally along opposing sides of a longitudinal bore open at a distal end of the sleeve. The lock can be coupled to the body and releasably securable to a channel of a head of the bone anchor to secure the sleeve to the anchor.
