EXPANDABLE INTERBODY SPACER
Devices and methods for treating one or more damaged, diseased, or traumatized portions of the spine, including intervertebral discs, to reduce or eliminate associated back pain. In one or more embodiments, the present invention relates to an expandable interbody spacer. The expandable interbody spacer may comprise a first jointed arm comprising a plurality of links pivotally coupled end to end. The expandable interbody spacer further may comprise a second jointed arm comprising a plurality of links pivotally coupled end to end. The first jointed arm and the second jointed arm may be interconnected at a proximal end of the expandable interbody spacer. The first jointed arm and the second jointed arm may be interconnected at a distal end of the expandable interbody spacer.
MEDICAL IMPLANT DEVICE
Systems and methods to evaluate a joint implant device are provided. The joint implant device can include a prosthesis body having a first end and a second end. The first end can couple with a first joint component and the second end can couple with a second joint component. The prosthesis body can include a first support. The prosthesis body can include a first gear rotatably coupled with the first support. The prosthesis body can include a second support movably coupled with the first support. The second support can include a second gear that can engage with a portion of the first gear. The prosthesis body can include a third support. The third support can movably couple with the second support. The third support can move relative to the first support with activation of the first gear.
Expanding implant with hinged arms
An implant (500, 600) includes first and second arms (14a, 14b) hinged to a base (12) at spaced-apart locations. An actuator (18, 22a, 22b, 602, 604, 606) is deployed to rotate the arms from an initial position in opposing angular motion towards a final position. A rigid bridging element (28) bridges between the arms so that deployment of the arms towards the final position displaces the bridging element away from the base. Engagement between the bridging element and at least one of the arms is via a double pin-in-slot engagement in which two non-collinear pins (30, 40) are engaged in respective non-parallel slots (32, 42).
Expandable implant assembly
An expandable includes a base member having a top surface and a bottom surface opposite the top surface, and an adjustable member adjustably coupled to the base member and movable between a first, collapsed position, and a second, expanded position. The adjustable member has a top surface and a bottom surface opposite the top surface. The top surface of the adjustable member and the bottom surface of the base member form a first angle while the adjustable member is in the first, collapsed position, and the top surface of the adjustable member and the bottom surface of the base member form a second angle while the adjustable member is in the second, expanded position. The first angle is different from the second angle.
Expandable intervertebral implant
An expandable intervertebral implant includes a superior plate having a proximal end, an opposing distal end, and a threaded first hole. An inferior plate has a proximal end, an opposing distal end, and a first bore, the inferior plate at least partially bounding an elongated channel that communicates with the first bore. A first lift screw includes a gear wheel rotatably received within the first bore of the inferior plate and a threaded stem projecting from the gear wheel and being threaded into the first hole of the superior plate. A drive screw is rotatably disposed within the channel of the inferior plate, the drive screw having a worm that engages with the gear wheel such that rotation of the drive screw facilitates rotation of the first lift screw which in turn facilitates movement of the superior plate relative to the inferior plate.
Surgical instrument for operating spinal implant system with dual axis adjustability and method of operating same
A surgical instrument includes a chassis, a first driving shaft, a first measuring mechanism, a second measuring mechanism, and a first handle. The chassis defines a first channel and a second channel each extending from a proximal end to a distal end. The first measuring mechanism corresponds to rotation in the first channel. The second measuring mechanism corresponds to rotation in the second channel. The first driving shaft is operable to be inserted into the first channel, engaging with the first measuring mechanism. The first driving shaft has an end portion configured to engage and drive a first adjustable feature and/or a second adjustable feature on a work-piece. The handle is operable to be releasably attached to the first driving shaft for applying torque or operable to remove the first driving shaft from the first channel.
Interbody fusion devices with self-affixing mechanisms
Interbody fusion devices including deployable fixation members. The implant may include a spacer, optionally, an end member coupled to the spacer, and one or more fixation members configured to extend into adjacent vertebrae. The fixation members may include screws, nails, shims, tangs, spikes, staples, pins, blades, fins, or the like, and combinations thereof.
BONE FUSION DEVICE
A bone fusion device provides stability to bones during a bone fusion period. The bones include, for example, the vertebrae of a spinal column. The bone fusion device comprises one or more extendable tabs attached to the bone fusion device by associated rotating means. The bone fusion device is preferably inserted by using an arthroscopic surgical procedure. During arthroscopic insertion of the device, the tabs are pre-configured for compactness. In this compact configuration, the tabs are preferably deposed along and/or within an exterior surface of the bone fusion device. After the bone fusion device has been positioned between the bones, one or more tab(s) are extended. In the preferred embodiment, the position of each tab is related to a positioning element and extending blocks. Typically, the tabs advantageously position and brace the bone fusion device in the confined space between the bones until the bones have fused.
Expandable implant for the spinal column
The invention relates to an expandable implant (11) with an upper plate (12) and a lower plate (16) which extend in the xy plane, which serve for anchoring on/in the vertebral support surfaces, and at least three gears (20, 25, 30) which are coupled to each other, wherein the gears (20, 25, 30) serve to expand the implant (11), and each gear (20, 25, 30) has a threaded spindle (21, 25, 31) and a threaded sleeve with corresponding inner thread (22, 27, 32), wherein the pitch of one thread (31, 32) is different from the pitch of the other threads (21, 22; 26, 27). The invention also relates to an operating instrument (80) for this implant.
Zero-profile expandable intervertebral spacer devices for distraction and spinal fusion and a universal tool for their placement and expansion
A unique, universal Zero-Profile Expandable Intervertebral Spacer (ZP-EIS) device for fusion and distraction throughout the entire spine is provided which can be inserted via anterior, anterolateral, lateral, far lateral or posterior surgical approaches dependent on the need and preference. Multiple ZP-EIS embodiments each with unique mechanisms of calibrated expansion are provided. Two of these embodiments incorporate bi-directional fixating transvertebral (BDFT) screws and five other embodiments do not incorporate BDFT screws. A tool for implantation into the intervertebral device and calibrated device expansion is also disclosed.
