The actuator emits electromagnetic waves for the stimulation of genetically manipulated tissue, and the controller controls the stimulation of the tissue by way of the electromagnetic waves of the actuator.

Capacitive voltage multiplier for providing adjustable control during a stimulation pulse

An implantable medical device (IMD) includes an adjustable capacitive voltage multiplier (CVM) that is responsive to diagnostic circuitry configured to provide control signals within a single stimulation current pulse for adjusting the voltage output applied to an electrode of the IMD's lead system. A control counter is coupled to the diagnostic circuitry for incrementing or decrementing an N-bit counter output signal operative to reconfigure a charge pump arrangement of the CVM so as to facilitate an adjusted voltage output.

TECHNIQUES FOR PLACING IMPLANTABLE ELECTRODES TO TREAT SLEEP APNEA, AND ASSOCIATED SYSTEMS

Techniques for placing implantable electrodes to treat sleep apnea, and associated devices, systems, and methods are disclosed herein. A representative method includes percutaneously implanting one or more signal delivery devices, each at or near a respective target signal delivery location in a patient. Each signal delivery device can include one or more electrodes, and individual ones of the electrodes can be positioned to produce a net positive protrusive motor response of the patient’s tongue. The representative method further includes providing power to one or more of the electrodes from a wearable power source to cause the electrode(s) to deliver an electrical signal to the respective target signal delivery location(s) to produce the net positive protrusive motor response.

An illustrative method of treating cardiovascular disease in a patient may include 1) generating, by an implantable stimulator, stimulation sessions, wherein the implantable stimulator comprises a central electrode of a first polarity centrally located on a first surface of a housing of the implantable stimulator and an annular electrode of a second polarity and that is spaced apart from the central electrode; and 2) applying, by the implantable stimulator, the stimulation sessions by way of the central electrode and the annular electrode to a location, within the patient, that is associated with the cardiovascular disease.

CALIBRATION FOR ECAP SENSING

Systems, devices, and techniques are described for calibrating a medical device that senses ECAP signals from a patient's nerve tissue. For example a method includes: instructing, with processing circuitry, stimulation circuitry of a medical device to deliver, on stimulation electrodes of the medical device, an electrical stimulation signal having an amplitude substantially equal to zero to a patient; entering, with the processing circuitry subsequent to instructing the stimulation circuitry to deliver the electrical stimulation signal, a passive recharge state on stimulation electrode circuitry; and auto-zeroing, with the processing circuitry, inputs to an operational amplifier of sensing circuitry electrically coupled to sensing electrodes of the medical device while the stimulation electrode circuitry is in the passive recharge state.

Implantable electrodes with remote power delivery for treating sleep apnea, and associated systems and methods

Implantable electrodes with power delivery wearable for treating sleep apnea, and associated systems and methods are disclosed herein. A representative system includes non-implantable signal generator worn by the patient and having an antenna that directs a mid-field RF power signal to an implanted electrode. The implanted electrode in turn directs a lowerfrequency signal to a neural target, for example, the patient's hypoglossal nerve. Representative signal generators can have the form of a mouthpiece, a collar or other wearable, and/or a skin-mounted patch.
