A hybrid filtration sock comprises a mesh tube filled with a blended filler comprising 60%-90% fibrous volumizing filler and 10%-40% woody organic filler. The fibrous volumizing filler 12 includes straw, grasses, pine straw, corn stalks, natural fibers and weeds and combinations thereof. The woody organic filler is ground or chipped wood based material from land clearing, yard waste, pallets and clean wood debris or clean wood scraps, comprising a PH of between 5.0 and 8.0, with a particle size wherein 99% passes a 2 in (50 mm) sieve and a maximum of 43% passes a in (9.5 mm) sieve, and <3.5% by dry weight of inert or foreign man made materials.

A method for manufacturing wastewater filtration plates uses a flowable composition including pre-ceramic raw material. The flowable composition is extruded to form a thin plate preform. Carbon-containing material is included in the flowable composition and/or added to the surface of the thin plate perform during or after extrusion thereof. The carbon-containing material is preformed carbon filaments or carbon-fiber precursor material. The thin plate preform is subjected to elevated temperatures to convert the pre-ceramic raw material into porous ceramic with carbon filaments embedded therein or disposed on the surface of the finished ceramic plate.

A filtration system includes a plurality of underdrain blocks arranged in a side-by-side configuration so as to define a gap therebetween, the gap configured to receive grout. Each underdrain block includes a top wall, a bottom wall, and a plurality of side walls connecting the top wall and the bottom wall. A grout bridge is arranged in the gap between adjacent underdrain blocks so as to form a grout seal between the grout bridge and adjacent side walls of the adjacent underdrain blocks. A modular distribution assembly comprises a top plate and a bottom plate, each of the top plate and the bottom plate comprises a plurality of recesses. A plurality of support members are slidably coupled to each of the top plate and the bottom plate, each support member of the plurality of support members comprising a protrusion on each of opposing sides thereof, each protrusion slidably coupled to a corresponding recess of the top plate and a corresponding recess of the bottom plate. An apparatus for removing impurities from water and/or wastewater and a method of installing a fluid distribution system in the apparatus. In the most preferred form of the invention, the fluid distribution system is an air scour system for directing air through the filter bed to assist in cleaning of the filter bed to remove impurities trapped in the filter bed during a service run. In the most preferred form, the method of installing the fluid distribution system in the filter bed is performed by imparting a force to the filter bed to permit the fluid distribution system to be installed in the filter bed without removing media. The fluid distribution system is preferably configured to permit the fluid distribution system to be readily installed in the filter bed and at an optimum orientation.

A coffee filter includes a metallic member having a flat portion in which tapered exit regions are formed that extend from the bottom of the flat portion to vertices interior to the flat portion. The flat portion is provided with a hole uniformity enhancement region between the top of the flat portion and the exit region vertices that are interior to the flat portion. The top of the flat portion is micro-machined to remove a part of the hole uniformity enhancement region to a predetermined depth into the hole uniformity enhancement region. Holes are formed in the top of the flat portion extending from the micro-machined top of the flat portion through the hole uniformity enhancement region to the vertices of the tapered exit regions. The predetermined depth of the micro-machined top of the flat portion is selected to prevent the micro-machined top of the flat portion from meeting the tapered exit regions to promote and maintain uniformity of the holes.

A filtration system having an underdrain block and an underdrain wall adaptor. The underdrain wall adaptor includes a vertical end and horizontal base. The vertical end extends from a top wall to a bottom wall of an underdrain block and mates with an end portion of an underdrain block to secure the underdrain wall adaptor to the underdrain block. The horizontal base extends from the vertical end. The invention also includes a method of installing an underdrain wall adaptor. The underdrain wall adaptor controls air and water passage between the flume and the underdrain.
