A series of vertically oriented filters of decreasing pore size is sealed from the atmosphere. Pressurized gas is used to force the liquid to be filtered through the filters. The filter stages are thermally insulated from ambient temperatures in order to maintain the liquid passing through at a reduced temperature. Each filter stage has a removable lid, which provides convenient access for replacing the filter cartridge, allowing it to be changed without disturbing the thermally insulated sidewalls of the filter stage.

A mobile microalgae harvesting apparatus is disclosed. In one embodiment the mobile microalgae harvesting apparatus includes a harvesting boom coupled to a harvesting vessel, where the harvesting boom skims a microalgae mixture of microalgae and water from a surface of a body of water down to a predetermined depth below the surface. In the embodiment, the mobile microalgae harvesting apparatus also includes a separator aboard the harvesting vessel that separates water from the microalgae mixture and a microalgae collector that collects microalgae from the separator, wherein the microalgae collector deposits the collected microalgae on a transfer vessel coupled to the harvesting vessel. A mobile microalgae harvester and a system for harvesting microalgae are also disclosed.

Seawater pretreatment device

An object is to provide a pretreatment device of seawater capable of growing and maintaining a biofilm in a good state on each of a plurality of filters connected in series, by supplying nutrients appropriately to the filters. A pretreatment device of seawater is used in removing salt from the seawater to obtain freshwater, and includes: a supply duct (21) through which the seawater is to be supplied; a plurality of filters (16) including a particulate filtering material and a biofilm; connecting tubes (23) which connect the plurality of filters in series; a plurality of bypass tubes (24) each of which connects corresponding one of the plurality of filters to the supply duct; and a plurality of regulating valves (26) each of which is disposed in corresponding one of the plurality of bypass tubes to regulate a flow rate.

A capture unit for use with an antimicrobial application unit may include an upstream filter and a downstream filter. The upstream filter may be positioned to receive effluent from the application unit and to filter solid components from the effluent. The resultant upstream effluent filtrate may then be passed downstream to the downstream filter. The downstream filter may be used to filter an antimicrobial component from the upstream effluent filtrate and the resultant downstream effluent filtrate may be suitable for disposal as wastewater discharge. The antimicrobial is preferably a quaternary ammonium compound, is more preferably an alkylpyridinium chloride, and is most preferably cetylpyridinium chloride.

Systems, devices, and methods for providing nutrient removals in an up flow filtration storm water system for treating water to very high clean levels using filtration media. A filtration media supported by a screen above an angled floor in a vault allows for incoming storm water to pass into a void space above the angled floor into the screen and filtration media and then out an outlet to the vault. The filtration media can include recyclable and/or natural particles. Layers of river rocks can be placed on top of and below the filtration media. Water sprayers can further liquefy sediment and debris that fills the void space between the angled floor and the bottom of the screen. The captured debris can slide down the angled floor, where a vacuum hose from an above ground vacuum truck can remove the debris and sediment. The long lasting filtration media can be cleaned by being backwashed.

Water treatment apparatus

There is disclosed a water treatment apparatus for treating stormwater, the water treatment apparatus comprising a volume of filter media, a baffle and an inlet conduit. The baffle extends upwards from the volume of filter media and defines a pre-treatment zone on one side of the baffle and a treatment zone on an opposing side of the baffle. The inlet conduit opens into the pre-treatment zone and is separated from the treatment zone by the baffle. The baffle is configured to regulate a flow of stormwater received via the inlet conduit by controlling the passage of stormwater from the pre-treatment zone to the treatment zone.

A combined heat and power microgrid system is provided that stores energy in the form of compressed air that can then be utilized as needed in the form, of electricity. The compressed air may be generated with energy from multiple electrical energy sources, such as renewable energy sources. The energy stored as compressed air/heat is used to charge a battery by utilizing a pulley system and a barrel housing that transfers kinetic energy generated by the release of the compressed air to an array of piezoelectric generators that can produce electricity, which is stored in the second battery. In addition, water may be extracted from the compressed air storage tank. In this way, energy produced by the renewable sources can be accessed during periods of high need or low production and water may be collected.
