POROUS COMPOSITE

A porous composite includes a porous base material, and a porous collection layer provided on a collection surface of the base material (e.g., on inner surfaces of first cells). The collection layer contains catalyst particles of rare-earth oxide or transition-metal oxide situated in pores of the collection surface of the base material. The collection surface has a covered region that is covered with the collection layer and whose total area is 60% or less of the total area of the collection surface.

STRETCHER OF ELASTIC MATERIAL, AIR FILTER UNIT CAPABLE OF CONTROLLING AIR PERMEABILITY INCLUDING SAME, AND MASK INCLUDING THE AIR FILTER UNIT

A mask according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may adjust permeability thereof by including and using an air filter unit which is capable of expanding or contracting, in at least one direction, a filter for filtering particles contained in air passing through the mask by pores.

ARTICLE FOR PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT USING AN ELECTROCEUTICAL SYSTEM
20210329990 · 2021-10-28 ·

An electroceutical system integrated into an article of personal protective equipment (PPE) like a face mask. The system consists of an electrochemical cell consisting of an anodic zone capable of serving as an anode, a cathodic zone capable of serving as a cathode and, optionally, a selectively conductive switch zone electrically couplable to and separating the anodic and cathodic zones and serving to switch on and off current flow between the anodic and cathodic zones.

FILTRATION ARTICLE FOR PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
20210331107 · 2021-10-28 ·

A filtration article for using in personal protective equipment (“PPE”) that includes one or more layers. The article has an external side for facing side the environment and an internal side for facing the body of a user. The article is air permeable but has a porosity sufficient to entrap and thereby filter selected infectious agents (IAs). The one or more layers comprise structures providing two or more of the following functional features selected from the group of: (1) a structure with oligodynamic materials for inactivating the selected IAs; (2) a structure of carbon fibers or particles for moisture management and/or conductive cooling; (3) a knit or woven structure having yarns in a denier gradient that causes wicking of water from the internal side of the mask toward the external side; (4) an energized or energizable structure that subjects entrapped IAs to current, charged particles, electrostatic discharge, resistive heating, IR heating and/or disruptive electromagnetic energy; and (5) a hydrophobic structure forming an external surface of the external side for repelling droplets and other moisture from absorbing into the surface.

FILTER MEDIA INCLUDING ADHESIVES

Articles and methods involving filter media are generally provided. In certain embodiments, the filter media includes at least a first layer, a second layer, and an adhesive resin positioned between the first layer and the second layer. In some embodiments, the first layer may be a pre-filter layer or a support layer. The second layer may, for example, comprise fibers formed by a solution spinning process and/or may comprise fine fibers. In some embodiments, the adhesive resin may be present in a relatively low amount and/or may have a low glass transition temperature. The filter media as a whole may have one or more advantageous properties, including one or more of a high stiffness, a high bond strength between the first layer and the second layer, a high gamma, and/or a low increase in air resistance after being subjected to an IPA vapor discharge. The filter media may be, for example, a HEPA filter and/or an ULPA filter.

FILTER MEDIA INCLUDING FLAME RETARDANT FIBERS

Filter media including a filtration layer comprising fibers (e.g., synthetic fibers) comprising a flame retardant and related components, systems, and methods associated herewith are provided. In some embodiments, a filtration layer may include a nonwoven web (e.g., wet-laid nonwoven web) comprising fibers including a certain flame retardant that has a relatively low concentration of or is substantially free of certain undesirable and/or toxic components (e.g., halogens). In certain embodiments, the nonwoven web may also comprise a blend of fibers. For instance, in some embodiments, the nonwoven web may also comprise a blend of coarse and fine diameter synthetic fibers that impart beneficial performance properties to the filtration layer. In some embodiments, the filtration layer may be designed to have a desirable flame retardancy (e.g., F1 rating, K1 rating) and performance properties without compromising certain mechanical properties (e.g., pleatability of the media) and/or environmental attributes (e.g., relatively low toxicity). Filter media described herein may be particularly well-suited for applications that involve filtering air, though the media may also be used in other applications.
