Water Filtration System
20240308877 · 2024-09-19 ·

A water filtration system is provided. Generally, the filtration system is usable with well water to remove contaminants such as metals, among many other components. The filtration system utilizes a granular filter medium, such as, for example, washed sand. The water filtration also includes a multi way backwash system that allows cleansing of the filter medium by passing backwash water in a first clockwise direction as well as an opposite counter clockwise direction. This rocks the filter medium back and forth by the backwash fluid flow, providing improved cleansing of the filter medium as well as better overall filter operation.

MEDIA RETENTION PLATE FOR A BLOCK UNDERDRAIN SYSTEM

A media retention plate for an underdrain system having one or more filter blocks. The plate can include a first slot configured to allow the passage of air and a second slot configured to allow the passage of water during an air backwash. The media retention plate is configured to facilitate the water to flow back into the one or more filter blocks through the second slot while maintaining air flow through the first slot to create an optimal collapse pulse. The first and second slots are evenly sized and evenly spaced apart to facilitate the creation of a relatively smaller-sized collapse pulse during a sequential air-water backwash. A plurality of inserts can be arranged along a perimeter of a basal portion of the bottom surface of the media retention plate. The inserts improve the structural integrity of and prevent uplift of the media retention plate.

Devices and methods for moving, removing and/or installing one or more components of a treatment unit

Devices and methods associated therewith for facilitating movement, removal and/or installation of components from treatment units (e.g., water treatment units and wastewater treatment units). The treatment unit can take the form of a granular media filter (e.g., upflow filter, downflow filter or bi-flow filter) or a sludge collection basin. One preferred device is one or more floats facilitating safe removal of components of a treatment unit. The float(s) can be operably associated with an air scour system of a water filter to remove the air scour system from a granular media filter bed. The float(s) can be operably associated with a collection grid of a sludge collection container facilitating safe removal of the collection grid from the sludge collection container. Another preferred device is a flexible piping/conduit operably connected to a pressurized air source and an air scour system to assist in removal/installation of the air scour system.

System And Method For Wastewater Treatment Including Use of Microporous Media Beds
20240294406 · 2024-09-05 ·

The invention provides water treatment for a municipal wastewater source by removal of contaminants including nutrient contaminants, FOG, total suspended solids, pathogenic bacteria, viruses and metal contaminates. Pathogenic bacteria and viruses are removed without the use of chlorine contact, ultraviolet treatment or reverse osmosis treatment. The treatment steps may include: oxygenation by single cell algae, electrocoagulation, precipitation of solids, absorption and flocculation, de-aeration, metered amounts of an anionic or cationic flocculant added for further coagulation and precipitation of coagulated material; mixing and subsequent clarification; sand filtration; and removal of remaining contaminants by containers housing microporous media beds or ion-exchange beds. The treatment steps may be used in various combinations and sub-combinations in order to focus treatment on prevalent contaminants in the wastewater to be treated. The invention further includes embodiments of the media bed containers and a non-transitory computer-readable medium to execute a method for conducting treatment of a wastewater stream.

Aquarium undergravel filter

A surface filter for aquarium water purification is placed on the bottom of the aquarium that sucks the waste out of the tank to the canister filter. Small plastic pieces make and connect the main stream channels. Each plastic piece is composed of a couple of inverted pyramids that acts like a funnel. Water flows through the main channels sucked by an external filter. In the base of each inverted pyramid a small hole opens to the drainage channel, which has a hollow inverted V shape. Water, particles and fish waste are passed through the channels to the external filter. At the end of the assembly a cross channel collects the drained water. Collected water is transferred to the external filter outside the aquarium. A hose connects the external filter with the collector. Another hose is connected to the same filter to return the filtered water back to the aquarium.

Modular sand filtration-anchor system and wave energy water desalination system and methods of using potable water produced by wave energy desalination

A potable water producing system for disposition at a salt water body and methods of producing potable water are provided. The system includes a wave energy conversion system (AWECS) and a portable filtration-anchor system. The AWECS forms a floating articulated barge having a desalination system including a reverse osmosis membrane. The filtration-anchor system is submerged in the salt water body and includes a sand filter to filter the adjacent salt water for providing the filtered salt water to the desalination system on the articulated barge. Wave action on the articulated barge provides energy to pump the filtered salt water from the sand filter to the reverse osmosis member to produce potable water. The wave action on the articulated barge effects the shaking of the reverse osmosis filter, thereby rendering it self-cleaning. The potable water can be used for various applications, e.g., bottling, replenishing aquifers, ground and/or aquifer remediation, irrigation, etc.

WASTE-MOVEMENT SYSTEM FOR AQUARIUM
20180116186 · 2018-05-03 ·

An apparatus includes a waste-movement system having a bed-support assembly configured to receive, contain and support an aquarium bed of an aquarium. A vibration-source assembly is configured to be positioned relative to the bed-support assembly. The vibration-source assembly is also configured to selectively generate and transmit vibrational energy to the aquarium bed while the aquarium water is made to flow. This is done in such a way that the gravel of the aquarium bed becomes, at least in part, spaced apart (at least in part) from one another; and the aquarium water, at least in part, moves (at least in part) the liquefied waste and the solid waste through the aquarium bed from a first interior section to a second interior section of the aquarium.

Multilayer Media Bed Filter with Improved Backwash
20180099237 · 2018-04-12 ·

A multi-layer media bed filter with an increasing density of media from the finest media on the top to the coarsest media on the bottom is backwashed using air without significantly disrupting stratification of the media layers. When the air is stopped, the contaminants in the liquid above the finest media that were removed by the airflow are flushed away either with liquid injected above the media or by a liquid flow through the media that does not remove the finest media. The amount of contaminants that remain in the finest media with the stratification-maintaining air backwash is significantly less than when using liquid backwash alone, whether the liquid backwash uses a flow rate sufficient to suspend the micromedia or below a suspending flow rate.
