An improvement in a wet scrubbing process for treating gaseous industrial process streams which contain one or more of SO.sub.2, SO.sub.3, H.sub.2SO.sub.4 which comprises contacting the stream of gas with a countercurrent flow of liquid derived from a circulating liquid stream which includes (i) a purge stream configured to remove a portion of the circulating liquid having a concentration of H.sub.2SO.sub.4 from the process, and (ii) a liquid make-up stream configured to replace the portion of the circulating liquid that is removed from the circulating liquid stream, the improvement comprising controlling the flow of liquid make-up whereby the concentration of H.sub.2SO.sub.4 in the purge stream is increased to a useful value; and filtering the purge stream to remove unwanted contaminants to yield a clarified purge stream.

Hydrogen sulfide removal process

A process is presented where a feed stream containing a hydrogen sulfide and another feed component is introduced into an absorber that the feed stream flows upward from the bottom of the absorber and contacts a liquid treatment solution, where the liquid treatment solution contains a sulfur dye catalyst. The hydrogen sulfide is absorbed into the liquid treatment solution and converted into sulfide ions. The other feed component is removed from the absorber vessel substantially free of the hydrogen sulfide and a spent treatment solution is also removed from the absorber vessel and fed to an oxidation vessel where it is contacted with an oxygen containing gas causing the sulfide ions to oxidize to thiosulfate and converting the spent sulfur dye catalyst to regenerated sulfur dye catalyst. The thiosulfate is recovered, and the regenerated sulfur dye catalyst can be recycled as part of the liquid treatment solution.

Methods for enzyme-enhanced CO.sub.2 capture include contacting a CO.sub.2-containing gas with an aqueous absorption solution at process conditionssuch as high temperature, high pH, and/or using carbonate-based solutionsin the presence of Thermovibrio ammonificans carbonic anhydrase (TACA) or functional derivative thereof for catalyzing the hydration reaction of CO.sub.2 into bicarbonate and hydrogen ions and/or catalyzing the desorption reaction to produce a CO.sub.2 gas. The TACA may be provided to flow with the solution to cycle through a CO.sub.2 capture system that includes an absorber and a stripper.

Carbon Capture System Comprising a Gas Turbine

A method and a plant for capturing CO2 from an incoming flue gas. The flue gas can be exhaust gas from coal and gas fired power plants, cement factories or refineries. The incoming exhaust gas is cooled, mixed with air and compressed, and thereafter introduced into a combustion chamber together with gas and/or liquid fuel. Part of the combustion is achieved by separate burners with cooling/combustion air feed with a volume equal to the volume of CO2 captured. Said burners will elevate the temperature in the combustion chamber allowing combustion of exhaust gas with low oxygen content. CO2 is captured at high partial pressure before expansion by the gas turbine to produce power and generate steam in the heat recovery unit. The gas turbine will operate with high efficiency close to design parameters with respect to inlet temperature, pressure and flow.
