Disclosed herein is a device and method for changing the conditions of a solution flowing in a serial path. In particular, disclosed herein is a device that includes a chemical reactor, a first system, and a second system that are each serial to one another. Each of the first system and the second system include a mixing chamber, a solvent reservoir, a solvent pump, and one or more detectors. Also disclosed herein is a method for changing the condition of a solution that includes flowing a liquid sample in a path, serially mixing the sample with at least two discrete solvents while it flows through the path, and detecting the condition of the sample after it is mixed with each solvent.
Used Oil Recycling Filtration Assembly
A filtration system suitable for recovering base stock from used lubricating oil and other applications pass feedstock over nano-filtration membranes assembled as a stack of membranes all experiencing parallel flow. On exiting a first stack of membranes the feedstock passes through an opening in a pressure-sustaining separator plate to flow in the reverse direction past a second stack of membranes and subsequently establish a serpentine flow of feedstock through multiple stacks of membranes. The stacks of membranes all share a common pressure containment vessel. Pressure boosters installed in the flow-through openings of separator plates separating consecutive stacks can serve to restore lost pressure of the feedstock and maintain effective permeation of permeate through the membranes. A pressure control valve at the outlet to the permeate-receiving cavities of a stack can be used to adjust the trans-membrane pressure.
Connection device for a suction apparatus of a vacuum diaphragm filter
A connection mechanism for a suction device for vacuum membrane filtration applications, includes a support for receiving a membrane filter or a filtration base, a cavity formed below the membrane filter or the filtration base, a suction duct which opens centrally into the cavity, and a ventilation duct which opens laterally into the cavity. The connection mechanism further includes a closing element which can be moved into several switching positions and which can block or unblock both the suction duct and the ventilation duct depending on the switching positions.
MOLECULAR EXCHANGE DEVICE
The present disclosure relates to a molecular exchange device. In particular, the molecular exchange device comprises at least one fluid passageway and an actuator, the actuator positioned to provide a secondary fluid pathway within at least one of the fluid passageways.
Acidic gas separation module, acidic gas separation device, and telescope prevention plate
An acidic gas separation module 10, which improves gas separation efficiency and reduces pressure loss, includes: a permeating gas collecting tube 12 having tube walls in which through holes 12A are formed; a layered body 14 that has at least an acidic gas separation layer 32 and that is wound on the permeating gas collecting tube 12; and telescope prevention plates 18 (a gas supply side 18A and a gas discharge side 18B) provided at both end faces in an axial direction of the wound layered body 14, wherein the ratio (D2/D1) of the open area ratio D2 of the telescope prevention plate on the gas discharge side 18B relative to the open area ratio D1 of the telescope prevention plate on the gas supply side 18A is from 0.5 to 0.9. An acidic gas separation device includes the acidic gas separation module 10.
Method and system for collecting leukoreduced red blood cells
A method and system for collecting leukoreduced red blood cells employing a spinning membrane separator including a housing having an upper end region and a lower end region in an operating position with a red blood cell outlet in the upper end region of the housing and a whole blood inlet in the lower end region of the housing. The method and system provide for flowing additive solution into the whole blood inlet of the housing to prime the separator; flowing whole blood into the whole blood inlet of the housing; separating red blood cells from the whole blood; flowing separated red blood cells out of the red blood cell outlet of the housing; combining the separated red blood cells with additive solution: passing the separated red blood cells and additive solution combination through a leukoreduction filter; and collecting the filtered red blood cells and additive solution.
Swirling flow generator for membrane distillation
A fluid filter and method for filtering fluid feed using the fluid filter is described. The fluid filter comprises an upper disk plate having a first compartment spaced apart and placed parallel to a lower disk plate having a second compartment. The feed fluid enters the first compartment in a first vortex pattern in a first direction at a first temperature, and a permeate fluid enters the second compartment in a second vortex pattern in a second direction opposite the first direction at a second temperature, wherein the second temperature is lower than the first temperature. A hydrophobic, vapor permeable membrane positioned between the upper disk plate and the lower disk plate allows vapor to pass from the first compartment to the second compartment having the permeate fluid, thus filtering the feed fluid.
GATED-CONCENTRIC ARTIFICIAL LUNG
An artificial lung including a housing having a circular outer wall being enclosed by a first surface and a second surface to define an interior volume, a blood inlet port to permit inlet flow of blood to the housing, a blood outlet port to permit outlet flow of the blood from the housing, a gas inlet port to permit inlet flow of a gas to the housing, a gas outlet port to permit outlet flow of the gas from the housing, and a plurality of baffles concentrically disposed within the housing. The baffles are positioned to define a flow path between the blood inlet port and the blood outlet port. Each of the baffles includes a gate opening to permit flow of the blood along the flow path. A fiber bundle is disposed between the baffles within the flow create mixing and improve gas exchange efficiency.
