Ballast water treatment apparatus and method for ship using forward osmosis process

A ballast water treatment apparatus for a ship includes a water collection part for collecting sea water, a forward osmosis process unit for producing ballast water and treatment water obtained by desalinating the sea water collected through the water collection part, and a ballast water tank for storing the ballast water produced by the forward osmosis process unit. Since the sea water is treated using a forward osmosis process, fresh water required within the ship can be supplied and the treated sea water can be used as ballast water. In addition, since waste heat and carbon dioxide generated in the ship are used to treat the sea water, the ballast water can be treated and produced in a low-cost and high efficient manner.

Aeration Device for Filtration System

An aeration device configured to be fitted to a membrane filtration module having membranes mounted therein. The aeration device comprises a sleeve configured to at least partially surround the membrane filtration module. The sleeve has one end adapted to engage with the membrane filtration module and another end adapted to engage with a filtrate collection conduit or manifold.

A water treatment apparatus is provided with: a treatment vessel into which a solution of interest S is fed; a hollow fiber membrane which is immersed in the solution of interest S in the treatment vessel and has gas permeability; and a biological membrane which is formed on the outer surface of the hollow fiber membrane and utilizes oxygen-containing air fed into the hollow fiber membrane. In the water treatment apparatus, the solution of interest S is treated with the biological membrane. The water treatment apparatus is also provided with a gas-diffusing tube which is located below the hollow fiber membrane and ejects a washing gas to wash the biological membrane; and an oxygen concentration meter which measures the oxygen concentration in discharged air that has passed through the hollow fiber membrane.

Gas exchange system and method

A gas exchange system, said system comprising: a plurality of cartridges, each having a casing, said casing having a cartridge inlet adjacent to a first end and a cartridge outlet adjacent to an opposed second end; each casing having a bore in which is placed a gas permeable, liquid impermeable, hollow membrane; each hollow membrane having a membrane inlet arranged to receive a gas from an inlet chamber and a membrane outlet for venting said gas; each cartridge inlet in communication with a concentration zone, and arranged to receive a solvent from said concentration zone, so as to exit said solvent through said cartridge outlet; wherein said bore is arranged to flow said solvent adjacent to said hollow membrane so as to permit the exchange of gas through said gas permeable, liquid impermeable membrane.

MABR media for supporting AOB and annamox bacteria and process for deammonification of wastewater

This specification describes a membrane aerated biofilm media and reactor (MABR) having a discontinuous layer of a porous material applied to the outer surface of a gas-transfer membrane. The porous material may have a void fraction of 50% or more. The porous material may have a thickness of up to about 500 microns and a pattern on the same order of magnitude as its thickness. The media may be used to carry on a deammonification reaction. In use, ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and annamox bacteria grown in or on the media, with the annamox bacteria located primarily in the porous material. The supply of oxygen through the gas-transfer membrane is limited to suppress the growth of nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB). Excess biofilm is removed, for example by coarse bubble scouring. The media may be placed in an anoxic zone of an activated sludge plant, which may be upstream of an aerobic zone.

Fluid Flow Distribution Device

In a first membrane filtration module comprises a membrane module comprising a plurality of permeable hollow membranes; a fluid distribution device adapted to removably surround at least a portion of the membranes of the membrane module, the fluid distribution device comprising a plurality of through-hole openings for distributing a fluid, and the fluid distribution device adapted to distribute a flow of fluid along a surface of the permeable hollow membranes. In a second membrane filtration device comprises a membrane module comprising a plurality of permeable hollow membranes, each of the permeable hollow membranes having a surface; and a gas distribution device: adapted to distribute gas bubbles to the surface of the permeable hollow membrane, adapted to removably surround at least a portion of the plurality of permeable hollow membranes, and defining a plurality of through openings for distributing the gas bubbles to the membranes.

Process, apparatus and membrane bioreactor for wastewater treatment

Wastewater influent is supplied to an aeration zone having a membrane module. Activated sludge is established in the aeration zone and an oxygen surplus is maintained by controlling a rate of oxygen supplied to the aeration zone. Wastewater influent is mixed with the activated sludge to form a first mixed liquid. A portion of the first mixed liquid is filtered to form a filtrate and unfiltered activated sludge. The unfiltered activated sludge is mixed with the activated sludge in the aeration zone to form the first mixed liquid. A portion of the first mixed liquid is transferred from the aeration zone to an anaerobic zone, and a second portion of first mixed liquid is mixed with activated sludge in the anaerobic zone to form a second mixed liquid. The second mixed liquid is recycled to the aerobic zone.
