APPARATUS, SYSTEM, AND METHOD FOR COLLECTING A TARGET MATERIAL

This disclosure is directed to an apparatus, system and method for retrieving a target material from a suspension. A system includes a plurality of processing vessels and a collector. The collector funnels portions of the target material from the suspension through a cannula and into the processing vessels. Sequential density fractionation is the division of a sample into fractions or of a fraction of a sample into sub-fractions by a step-wise or sequential process, such that each step or sequence results in the collection or separation of a different fraction or sub-fraction from the preceding and successive steps or sequences. In other words, sequential density fractionation provides individual sub-populations of a population or individual sub-sub-populations of a sub-population of a population through a series of steps.

In a device for coupling a cartridge for a lab-on-a-chip analysis device, the cartridge has at least one pneumatic port and at least one reagent chamber. The device has a receiving region and a clamping unit. The receiving region is shaped to receive the cartridge. The clamping unit includes a pneumatic interface for pneumatically contacting the pneumatic port and a punch for insertion into the reagent chamber. The clamping unit is arranged adjacent to the receiving region and is designed to perform a first translatory motion toward the receiving region in order to bring the pneumatic interface into contact with the pneumatic port. Furthermore, the clamping unit is designed to perform a second translatory motion toward the receiving region following the first translatory motion in order to insert the punch into the reagent chamber.

NUCLEIC ACID EXTRACTION AND PURIFICATION CARTRIDGES
20210008552 · 2021-01-14 ·

Nucleic acid extraction and purification cartridges and systems are provided. The cartridges can be removable and are configured to allow for the concentration of particles of interest, followed by nucleic acid extraction and purification. The cartridges directly contact samples and provide a partial barrier between samples and the reusable components of the system, thereby reducing the probability of clogging the system's microfluidics and fouling the lines, valves, and pumps of the system. Furthermore, these cartridges are designed to purity nucleic acids by removing the majority of inhibitors for down-stream genetic testing. Embodiments may comprise one, two, or three or more channels. In an exemplary embodiment the nucleic acid extraction and purification cartridge comprises a first channel containing a filter disposed therein; and a second channel containing a nucleic acid binding matrix disposed therein, wherein a first end of the cartridge is configured to directly contact a sample comprising a biological material, and wherein a second end of the cartridge Is configured to connect in a reversible fashion to a flow-through automated Instrument that controls fluid flow through the cartridge.

METHODS AND APPARATUS TO POSITION THIN-FILM SPECIMENS

Systems and methods are provided for enhanced thin-film specimen gripping solutions. An apparatus for handling thin-film specimens may include a specimen holder that is configured to engage a thin-film specimen, with the specimen holder including one or more holding components configured to receive the thin-film specimen in a flat position with respect to the specimen holder, and one or more securing components configured to securely maintain the thin-film specimen in the flat position during manipulation of the specimen holder. The specimen holder may include one or more apertures between the one or more securing components that enable access both sides of the thin-film specimen at two or more locations on the thin-film specimen. The specimen holder may include width adjustment component configured to allow accommodating different specimen widths.

Assembly for Forming Microchamber for Inverted Substrate
