The disclosure relates to a coating apparatus for applying a monolayer layer of particles to a receiving surface. The apparatus comprises a pressurized air source, an application chamber partially bounded by the receiving surface into which an air stream is delivered by the air source, an air return path for returning air from the application chamber to an intake of the air source to form an air circulation loop, and a dosing device for introducing particles to be coated onto the receiving surface into the air circulation loop, a particle deflector being positioned in the path of the air stream to break up agglomerated particles carried by the air stream prior to coating the receiving surface with the particles. A method of applying a layer of particles is also provided, as well as printing systems benefiting from the present coating apparatus.

A separating element can be moved from a closed position into an open position by rotation about an axis of rotation. In the closed position, a subregion lies with its underside against an inner wall of the drum or has a small gap there. In the open position, the subregion on the underside is spaced apart from the inner wall of the drum and there is an opening there through which granular bodies can pass. On the end sides of the drum there are stop elements with which a drum of at least one further module is connectable in order to form a coating apparatus and/or a closure element.

A method for manufacturing a battery electrode includes mixing particles of active electrode materials, conductive additives, and binder to form a dry powder electrode material. The dry powder is then deposited onto a moving electrode current collector using a dry powder dispensing device. The dry powder is a loose powder continuously poured from the dispensing device onto a moving current collector in a roll-to-roll system where the powder remains loose on the current collector as it travels towards a compaction stage. After being poured onto the current collector, the loose dry powder is uniformly spread across the width of the moving current collector web by one or more spreading devices, such as smoothing rollers and conditioning rollers. Finally, the dry powder is compacted using a calender configured to apply pressure and/or heat to the dry powder electrode material to activate the binder and form a battery electrode.
