Diamond-like carbon films and uses thereof

The present invention relates to methods of forming a film between two surfaces, in which the film includes diamond-like carbon. Also provided herein are uses of such films, such in sliding contacts and in metal coatings.

SUPERHYDROPHOBIC SURFACES

Articles and methods related to superhydrophobic surfaces are generally described. In some embodiments, an article may include a substrate and a plurality of nanoscale and/or microscale features may be formed on a surface of the substrate by irradiating the substrate. The plurality of nanoscale and/or microscale features may comprise oxides and/or hydroxides on the surface of the substrate. A fluorinated coating may be associated with at least a portion of the surface of the substrate, including, for example, the nanoscale and/or microscale features may be coated with the fluorinated coating.

Process for coating of articles

A process of providing an antibacterial coating to the surface of an article including the steps of applying a layer of an antibacterial precursor layer to the surface of an article to which an antibacterial coating is to be applied, wherein said antibacterial precursor layer is a precursor from which the coating is to be formed; and directing a neutral molecular hydrogen flux from a neutral molecular hydrogen flux emission source towards the surface of the article. Upon impact of neutral hydrogen molecules on molecules at or on the surface of an article, the bonds of the antibacterial precursor layer are selectively ruptured, and wherein the selectively ruptured bonds cross-link with themselves or with other chemical moieties at said surface or a combination thereof, resulting an antibacterial coating being formed on the surface of the article.

DIAMOND-LIKE CARBON FILMS AND USES THEREOF

The present invention relates to methods of forming a film between two surfaces, in which the film includes diamond-like carbon. Also provided herein are uses of such films, such in sliding contacts and in metal coatings.

METHOD OF COATING HEAT TRANSFER COMPONENTS TO IMPART SUPERHYDROPHOBICITY
20190330734 · 2019-10-31 ·

A method for coating heat transfer components to impart superhydrophobicity comprises conveying one or more heat transfer components to a cleaning station, where the one or more heat transfer components are cleaned with an organic solvent. After the cleaning, the one or more heat transfer components are conveyed to a nanostructuring station and immersed in hot water for surface oxidation and roughening. After the immersion in hot water, the one or more heat transfer components are conveyed to a functionalization station and exposed to a heated precursor vapor comprising a hydrophobic species. During the exposure, the hydrophobic species is deposited on roughened surfaces of the one or more heat transfer components, thereby forming a superhydrophobic coating. Prior to being conveyed to the cleaning station, the one or more heat transfer components may be attached to an automated conveyor system positioned to traverse the cleaning, nanostructuring, and functionalization stations.
