Process for producing an aluminum alloy sheet for motor vehicle

An aluminum alloy sheet for motor vehicles is produced by casting a melt, containing 3.0-3.5 mass % Mg, 0.05-0.3 mass % Fe, 0.05-0.15 mass % Si, and less than 0.1 mass % Mn, a balance substantially being inevitable impurities and Al, into a slab having a thickness of 5 to 15 mm in a twin-belt caster so that cooling rate at depth of thickness of the slab is 20 to 200 C./sec; winding the cast thin slab into a coiled thin slab subjected to cold rolling with a roll having a surface roughness of 0.2 to 0.7 m Ra at a cold rolling reduction of 50 to 98%; subjecting the cold rolled sheet to final annealing either continuously in a CAL at a holding temperature of 400 to 520 C. within 5 minutes or in a batch annealing furnace at a holding temperature of 300 to 400 C. for 1 to 8 hours; and subjecting the resulting sheet to straightening with a leveler.

THERMAL SPRAY COATINGS ONTO NON-SMOOTH SURFACES

This invention relates to thermal spray coatings and processes onto non-smooth surfaces. The coating and processes can coat non-smooth surfaces without substantial degradation of the underlying surface texture or profile of the non-smooth surfaces so as to sufficiently preserve the underlying surface texture or profile. The ability for coating fractional coverage to maintain the surface profile while maintaining wear resistance is unprecedented by conventional thermal spray processes

TEXTURED WORK ROLL FOR A METAL SUBSTRATE

A textured work roll can impart a desired texture on a metal substrate, such as an aluminum or aluminum alloy sheet. The textured work roll can be used for applying a gloss finish on the metal substrate. The textured work roll can be textured by grinding the work roll to form a ground work roll; electro-discharge texturing the work roll to form an electro-discharge textured work roll; and polishing the work roll to form a polished work roll. The polished work can have an Ra value between 0.30 m and 0.70 m. The polished work roll can be used to apply the gloss finish on the metal substrate.

EMBOSSING FOR ELECTRO DISCHARGE TEXTURED SHEET

An apparatus and method for applying an EDT texture to an aluminum sheet has a rolling stand with at least one EDT surfaced roll capable of rolling the sheet at reductions<1%. The rolling is conducted with residual or no lubrication and imparts a texture on the scale of about 1 m to the surface of the sheet at low roll force.

The present invention aims to provide an embossed thermoplastic resin sheet that is capable of enhancing deaeration during production of laminated glass and suppressing optical distortion of the resulting laminated glass to improve the visibility when used as an interlayer film for laminated glass. The present invention also relates to an engraved roll used for production of the embossed thermoplastic resin sheet, a production method of the engraved roll, an interlayer film for laminated glass including the embossed thermoplastic resin sheet, and a laminated glass. The present invention relates to an embossed thermoplastic resin sheet having a large number of recesses and a large number of projections on at least one surface, the recesses each having a groove shape with a continuous bottom and being regularly arranged side by side in parallel with one another, the thermoplastic resin sheet having not more than three defects of the projections per mm.sup.2 on the surface.

Method for producing an aluminium foil with integrated security features

Method for producing an aluminum foil with integrated security features. An aluminum foil is rolled down to a thickness of less than 150 m in a plurality of cold rolling passes, texturing that runs in the direction of rolling being induced simultaneously on both surface sides of the foil. In a final cold rolling pass, the foil is fed to a working roller pair, in which, on at least one roller surface, the relief-like surface structuring generated in the rolling direction by grinding was reduced on the basis of contrast and motif in a region of 10 to 50% relative to the average surface roughness to form a motif for a security feature that is transferred to the surface side of the foil facing the roller surface. The generated aluminum foil has a glossy appearance on both sides such that the security feature rises clearly due to its dull appearance.

ENGINEERED WORK ROLL TEXTURING

Metal work rolls texturized with engineered textures can impart desired impression patterns on metal strips. Engineered textures can be controlled with particularity to achieve desired surface characteristics (e.g., lubricant trapping, coefficient of friction, or surface reflectivity) on work rolls and metal strips, and to allow for impression patterns to be imparted on metal strips during high percentages of reduction of thickness (e.g., greater than about 5% or greater than about 15%, such as around 30%-55%). Engineered textures can be applied by focusing energy beams at specific points of an outer surface of a work roll to impart texture elements on the work roll. In some cases, an engineered texture element that can be used to generate a generally circular impression element can be generally elliptical in shape, having a length that is shorter than its width by a factor dependent on the reduction of thickness percentage.

Sheet steel having a deterministic surface structure

The invention relates to a sheet steel skin-pass rolled with a deterministic surface structure, and to a method for producing it.

Hard disk drive cover with differential inner and outer surface roughness

A hard disk drive cover with a smooth bottom (inner) surface and a textured outer surface is provided for covering a hard disk drive base assembly. A method of manufacturing the hard disk includes providing a metal material. The metal material is worked into a metal strip having a textured surface and an opposing smooth surface. A hard disk drive cover is stamped from the worked metal strip with the smooth surface being the inner surface of the stamped cover. The smooth inner surface of the hard disk drive advantageously enhances cleanliness within the base assembly. The smooth surface finish on the inner surface also advantageously enhances shear strength of a bond between a gasket and the inner surface.

A roller for forming heat transfer elements may include a central shaft and a plurality of roller elements. The plurality of roller elements may be stacked on the central shaft. Each roller element defines an outer periphery, which is configured to include a geometrical characteristic thereacross. The stacked roller elements, either stacked on the central shaft or stacked without using the central shaft, configures the roller with a circumferential surface corresponding to the geometrical characteristic of the stacked roller elements, to form the heat transfer elements corresponding to the circumferential surface.
