Metal part extrusion control
11897013 · 2024-02-13 · ·

A technique for optimizing metal extrusion process parameters includes receiving values representing properties of an extrusion press machine, and calculating an estimated surface exit temperature of a metal work product resulting from an extrusion of a metal billet using the extrusion press machine based on the machine property values, an initial temperature of the metal billet prior to the extrusion, an extrusion force applied to the metal billet during the extrusion, and an extrusion speed of the metal work product. The estimated surface exit temperature of the metal work product is compared with a target hot shortness exit temperature of the metal work product. The initial temperature of the metal billet, the extrusion speed, and the extrusion force are changed based on the comparison until the estimated surface exit temperature equals the target hot shortness exit temperature.

METHOD FOR FORMING A MOULDING AND MOULDING
20190374988 · 2019-12-12 ·

A shaped part and a method for forming the shaped part from a lightweight metal or alloy by extrusion of a slug performed along a pressing axis. The shaped part is formed in at least one region with a deviation from a basic form that is rotationally symmetrical with respect to the pressing axis. The symmetry-deviating region extends over a wall portion of the shaped part that is formed by backward cup extrusion with a normal vector extending predominantly orthogonally in relation to the pressing axis. The same extruding operation forms a structure that surrounds the pressing axis, on a sheet-like base of the shaped part that adjoins the wall portion and has a normal vector extending predominantly in the direction of the pressing axis on the side thereof opposite from the wall portion. In a region of lowest wall thickness of the wall portion at the transition to the base, the quotient of this wall thickness in mm and an average curvature (1/r) in mm.sup.-1, formed at the transition, is greater than 0.03 and/or, in an at least predominant region of the base-wall transition when seen in the circumferential direction, the ratio of the wall thickness to the base thickness is less than 1.0.

Method and plant for producing extrusion billets

A method and a system produces extrusion billets from scraps obtained from stamping, cutting and/or machining operations, in particular scraps made of magnesium or magnesium alloys, without subjecting these to a melting process. The system for carrying out the method is essentially composed of a storage unit for the scraps, a device for comminuting the scraps, a press for producing a round briquette, and an extruder for shaping the round briquette into a extrusion billet.

DIRECT MECHANICALLY-OPERATED EXTRUSION PRESS

There is described an extrusion press (1) of a metal billet, comprising a die (3), a punch (2) able to push the billet through the die (3), and a container (4) of the billet upstream of the die (3). Said extrusion press (1) further comprises a screw (5) with which the punch (2) is integral, able to engage a nut screw (6) provided in the extrusion press (1). At least one electric motor (7) drives the reciprocal movement of the screw (5) and nut screw (6), thus causing the translation of the punch (2) in the extrusion direction.
