Production of metal-based thin foils

A method for producing metal-based thin foils is provided, which includes the steps of extruding a metal through an extruder to form a preliminary foil, cooling the preliminary foil in a coolant bath, and rolling the preliminary foil in a rolling system containing at least two rollers to form a metal-based thin foil.

Method for producing a motor vehicle component

A method for producing a motor vehicle component from a lightweight metal alloy is disclosed including extruding a profile having at least two wall thicknesses that are mutually dissimilar in the cross section, rolling the extruded profile in portions in the extrusion direction. The rollers in the roller spacing thereof are variable. Cutting-to-length the extruded and in portions rolled profile so as to form a semi-finished product, and forming the semi-finished product so as to form the motor vehicle component.

Extrusion press systems and methods

One or more hollow billets are loaded onto an elongate mandrel bar for extrusion. The billets are transported along the mandrel bar to a rotating die. The billets are transported through fluid clamps, which engage the mandrel bar and provide cooling fluid to the mandrel bar tip, and through mandrel grips, which engage the mandrel bar and prevent the mandrel bar from rotating. One or more press-rams advance the billets through a centering insert and into the rotating die. A quench assembly is provided at an extrusion end of the extrusion press to quench the extruded material. A programmable logic controller may be provided to control, at least in part, operations of the extrusion press system.

Puller apparatus with movable mounting arm

A puller apparatus has a path through which an extrusion travels downstream from an outlet of an extruder and upper and lower extrusion puller members that define a portion of the path. At least one of the extrusion puller members is a drive member to provide forward motion to an extrusion. A mounting arm is moveably mounted to the puller apparatus at a mounting location. The mounting arm has a first portion on one side of the mounting location and a second portion on an opposed side of the mounting location. The upper extrusion puller member is mounted to the first portion of the mounting arm. The mounting arm is movable from a lowered position in which the upper extrusion puller member is positioned to engage an extrusion in the path and a raised position in which the upper extrusion puller member is spaced upwardly from the lowered position.

Method for fabricating non-planar magnet

A method for fabricating a non-planar magnet includes extruding a precursor material including neodymium iron boron crystalline grains into an original anisotropic neodymium iron boron permanent magnet having an original shape, wherein the original anisotropic neodymium iron boron permanent magnet has at least about 90 percent neodymium iron boron magnetic material by volume. The original anisotropic neodymium iron boron permanent magnet is heated to a deformation temperature. The original anisotropic neodymium iron boron permanent magnet is deformed into a reshaped anisotropic neodymium iron boron permanent magnet having a second shape substantially different from the original shape using heated tooling to apply a deformation load to the original anisotropic neodymium iron boron permanent magnet. The original anisotropic neodymium iron boron permanent magnet and the reshaped anisotropic neodymium iron boron permanent magnet each have respective magnetic moments substantially aligned with a respective local surface normal corresponding to the respective magnetic moment.

Method for producing a motor vehicle component from an extruded light metal profile

A method for producing a motor vehicle component from a light metal alloy includes: extruding an extruded profile with, in cross section, at least two mutually different wall thicknesses and at least one closed hollow chamber and with an extrusion width, at least partially flattening and/or widening the cross section to a processing width, wherein the processing width is greater than the extrusion width, before or after the flattening and/or widening, performing separation to form blanks, processing the blanks by deformation to form the motor vehicle component.

Extrusion apparatus

An extrusion apparatus includes an extruder, a run-out table that supports an extruded material that has been extruded from the extruder, a feed roller and a pulling roller that are provided at a given interval so as to be able to come in rolling contact with the extruded material that is situated on the run-out table, and a cooling section that cools the extruded material between the feed roller and the pulling roller, wherein the feed roller and the pulling roller apply a tensile force to the extruded material while the extruded material advances from the feed roller to the pulling roller.
