Cushions for use in seating for boats and methods of using the same. According to one embodiment, the cushion is designed for use with a bucket-type boat seat and includes an insert and a casing. The insert has a J-shape and is made up of three foam pads joined to one another, with a first of the foam pads designed to be positioned over the boat seat, with a second of the foam pads designed to be positioned in front of the boat seat, and with a third of the foam pads designed to be positioned under the boat seat. The casing preferably conforms substantially to the shape of the insert and is designed to permit the insert to be inserted into and/or removed from the casing. The cushion additionally includes a fastener coupled to the casing for use in securing the casing to the boat seat.

The device comprises, generally, a flexible membrane enclosing floating beads adapted to be completely immersed and freely moving inside a fluid. The device further comprises a mesh adapted to stop the floating beads from going outside of the flexible membrane as a result of a pressure increase or decrease inside the flexible membrane. The device is being fluidly connected to a pressure control system adapted to increase and/or decrease the internal pressure of the flexible membrane and comprises a vibration/leveling system adapted to adjust the fluid level inside the flexible membrane.

The cushion has material with sufficient flexibility to deform under a weight of the user and sufficient resilience to return to its original state when the weight is removed. A supporting face contacts the support surface and is characterized by a plurality of points. The supporting face is contoured such that, when the cushion is in an unloaded configuration, a first subset of the plurality of points contact the support surface and a second subset of the plurality of points do not contact the support surface. When a user then sits on the cushion so that it is in a loaded configuration, at least some of the points in the second subset are displaced under the user's weight and contact the support surface. The cushion thus both bends and compresses to distribute the weight of the user.
