A cutting tool includes a generally cylindrical tool body disposed about a central longitudinal axis, the tool body having first and second extending sides with respective first and second bores that pass therethrough, wherein a first longitudinal axis of the first bore and a second longitudinal axis of the second bore are configured to be non-parallel to a horizontal axis of the tool body that is perpendicular to the central longitudinal axis of the tool body. The cutting tool also includes a replaceable cutting insert configured to be removably attached to the tool body and first and second attachment elements configured for receipt in the first and second bores, respectively, and adapted to engage the cutting insert and secure the cutting insert to the tool body.

Cutter heads with improved coupling

A modular cutter head having a holder defining a threaded receiver. The cutter head can be screwed into the threaded receiver. The cutter can comprise an elongated body portion having a cutting end and cutting edge and an elongated coupling portion spaced from the cutting end, with the coupling portion comprising a core and a plurality of generally helically-extending start threads disposed circumferentially about the core. The cutter head may also include a cutting end having a chip flute and an insert seat.

ROTARY CUTTING TOOL

A rotatable cutting tool includes an elongate body having a longitudinal axis, a proximal end and a distal end and at least one helical flute extending over a length of the elongate body, the helical flute having a first end and a second end. The flute includes a cutting-edge with a first radius from a longitudinal center of the cutting tool, a trailing edge with a second radius from a longitudinal center of the cutting tool, wherein the second radius is smaller than the first radius, a flute surface between the cutting-edge and the trailing edge, the flute surface including a maximum radius at the cutting-edge and a plurality of foam chip shedding exclusions spaced along the cutting-edge of the helical flute, each of the foam chip shedding exclusions providing a gap in the cutting-edge where the radius within the gap is smaller than the first radius.

Machining head, holder and exchangeable tip cutting tool

An exchangeable tip cutting tool in which breakage of the threaded section and breakage of the thread ridges during installation of the machining head and under increased cutting load during cutting are limited and which is capable of performing machining with high efficiency; and a machining head and a holder to be used in the exchangeable tip cutting tool.

Replaceable cutting head having threaded mounting portion with two spaced apart conical abutment surfaces provided with the same cone angle, tool holder and rotary cutting tool
09844817 · 2017-12-19 · ·

A replaceable cutting head includes a forward cutting portion and a rearward mounting portion. The mounting portion includes a male coupling member that protrudes rearwardly from a head base surface. The male coupling member includes forward and rearward bearing portions and an external thread located therebetween. The forward and rearward bearing portions include respective conically shaped forward and rearward head abutment surface. The forward and rearward head abutment surfaces have the same cone angle. When a cutting tool, including said cutting head and a tool holder having a female coupling member, is in a locked position, the external thread is threadingly engaged in the female coupling member and the forward and rearward head abutment surfaces conically abut corresponding conical shaped surfaces in the female coupling member.

Composite milling cutter

A composite milling cutter includes a rotatable adapter plate and ring cutter. The adapter plate has a raised key portion with a peripheral side wall having a plurality of curved abutment surfaces symmetrically located on an inscribed circle, IC.sub.AP defined by the raised key portion. The cutter ring has an opening with a peripheral side wall for receiving the raised key portion of the adapter plate. The peripheral side wall has a plurality of curved abutment surfaces complimentary in shape to the curved abutment surfaces of the adapter plate and symmetrically located on an inscribed circle, IC.sub.CR, defined by the opening. A tolerance between the abutment surfaces of the peripheral side wall of the raised key portion and the abutment surfaces of the peripheral wall of the opening is such that run-out is minimized.

Tool head for a modular shank tool

A milling tool has a tool shank and a cutting head fastened to the forward end of the tool shank by way of a clamping connection. The clamping connection has a protrusion with clamping faces, and a recess with centering faces that interact with the clamping faces. Each of the centering faces has a first region where the centering faces are spaced from a longitudinal axis of the tool shank by a first distance and a second region at a smaller distance. The first region merges into the second region. The clamping faces of the protrusion are introducible into the recess between the first regions of the centering faces and are movable, by rotation of the cutting head about the longitudinal axis, into a clamping position in which the clamping faces interact in a force-fit with the second regions of the centering faces.

Coupling mechanism for cutting tool

A rotary cutting tool including a cutter member having an axial forward end and an axial rearward end. A cutting region is at the axial forward end of the cutter member, and a male threaded portion is adjacent the axial rearward end of the cutter member. A shank member has an axial forward end and a shank bore opening at the axial forward end. The shank bore has an axial shank bore length.
