A workpiece retainer retains a workpiece at a time of a cutting process by a wire electric discharge machining device that cuts a workpiece by electric discharge from wire electrodes that are spaced from each other and are arranged in parallel. The workpiece retainer is formed with a fitting portion, into which the workpiece is fitted substantially without any gap, and has an external shape such that at a time of cutting the workpiece retainer together with the workpiece fitted in the fitting portion, a length along the wire electrodes of a portion where the workpiece retainer and the workpiece face the wire electrodes becomes substantially constant during the cutting process of the workpiece.

Fixture for electro-chemical machining electrode

A fixture for an electro-chemical machining (ECM) electrode is provided. The fixture may include a clamp having a shape and size configured to selectively engage in at least a portion of a selected dovetail slot of a plurality of dovetail slots in a turbine wheel. An electrode mount positions an electrode head relative to the clamp such that the electrode head operatively engages a portion of the selected dovetail slot for electro-chemical machining of the portion. The fixture's electrode may act as a cathode for the ECM process. The fixture allows for ECM on site without removing a turbine wheel from a turbomachine.

The return system comprises a first collector 19 for catching spills from a dielectric bath 9 associated with a set of electrodes 10 which apply electrical pulses to the workpiece through the dielectric fluid in the bath. Also, a separate, second collector 21 is positioned substantially beneath the workpiece and arranged both to receive fluid from the first collector 19 and to catch fluid that drips from the workpiece itself, the second collector being connected to a pump 13 which returns the fluid from the second collector to the dielectric bath.

Methods of repairing a part having a firtree-shaped feature requiring rework are disclosed. An embodiment of the method includes receiving the part having the firtree-shaped feature requiring rework. The part is installed in a machine configured for wire electrical discharge machining (EDM). A location of the firtree-shaped feature relative to a datum of the machine is then determined. Wire EDM is performed on the firtree-shaped feature.
