DEVICE FOR PROVIDING MULTIPLE SURFACE TREATMENTS TO THREE-DIMENSIONAL OBJECTS PRIOR TO PRINTING AND SYSTEM USING THE DEVICE

A surface treatment system includes a holder configured to secure an object within the holder and a surface treatment device that is configured to treat a surface of the object within the holder with two types of surface treatments. The device is capable of producing a plasma or a flame at its nozzle for surface treatment. By controlling the materials supplied to the device and the way in which is operated, either a flame or plasma is produced. Thus, the surface treatment system is capable of treating a wide range of materials for printing by a direct-to-object printer.

Apparatuses and methods for scoring a glass article

Disclosed herein are methods and apparatuses for scoring a glass article, including positioning a plasma flame of a plasma torch and the glass article in close proximity to one another; and moving the plasma torch across a surface of the glass article to form at least one indentation in the surface, wherein the at least one indentation is formed from the plasma flame melting at least a portion of the glass surface to form a scoring line, without penetrating through a total thickness of the glass article.

Swirl ring and contact element for a plasma arc torch cartridge

A swirl ring for a plasma arc torch includes a body configured to at least partially surround and slidingly engage an electrode of the plasma arc torch. The body includes a first end and a second end opposite the first end, the first and second ends defining a longitudinal axis, and at least one protuberance extending from the second end in a direction of the longitudinal axis. The at least one protuberance is configured to engage a switch of the plasma arc torch for sensing a presence of a swirl ring in the plasma arc torch.

GEOLOGIC MATERIAL REMOVAL SYSTEM

A plasma excavation system comprising a moveable support structure including a controller, an attachment mechanism removably coupled to the moveable support structure, and a plasma torching head coupled to the attachment mechanism, the plasma torching head moveable along two axes.

System and Method for Slag and Fume Management for Thermal Processes

A system to prevent a flow of gas and particulates from spreading to atmosphere during a material processing operation includes a slag deflector disposed proximate a torch during the material processing operation. The slag deflector includes a thermally-conductive base portion having an impact surface facing the torch. The impact surface is shaped to prevent the flow of gas and particulates from the material processing operation from spreading in a direction away from the torch, and to redirect the first flow of particulates to a surface configured to inhibit the first flow of particulates from flowing to atmosphere. The slag deflector includes a coolant flow channel configured to thermally-regulate the impact surface of the thermally conductive base portion.

EDGE POLISHING A GLASS SUBSTRATE AFTER CUTTING

A method includes projecting energy onto an annular edge of a glass substrate. The annular edge includes a first roughness. The first roughness is reduced to a second roughness with the energy. The energy reduces the first roughness without changing a roundness of the annular edge of the glass substrate.

LASER BEAM CUTTING/SHAPING A GLASS SUBSTRATE

An apparatus includes a beam splitter and a plurality of mirrors. The beam splitter is positioned to receive a laser beam from a source and split the received laser beam to a first plurality of split laser beams and a second plurality of split laser beams. The plurality of mirrors is configured to direct the first plurality of split laser beams and further configured to direct the second plurality of split laser beams. The first plurality of split laser beams is directed by the plurality of mirrors is configured to cut a glass substrate. The second plurality of split laser beams is directed by the plurality of mirrors is configured to shape the glass substrate.

SHAPING A GLASS SUBSTRATE AFTER CUTTING

A method includes projecting a first energy beam onto an annular edge of a glass substrate. A first portion of the annular edge of the glass substrate is removed with the first energy beam. Removing the first portion increases the roundness of the annular edge of the glass substrate. A second energy beam is projected onto the annular edge of the glass substrate. A second portion of the annular edge of the glass substrate is removed with the second energy beam. Removing the second portion increases the roundness of the annular edge of the glass substrate.
