A drill device includes a drill tip and a drill body having a rear portion. The drill tip includes at least a first clearance surface and the drill body includes at least a first land having a margin. An edge is disposed between the first clearance surface and the margin. A textured area having a plurality of recesses extends along at least a portion of the margin, in the direction of the rear portion of the drill body, from a position of 200 μm from the edge, from a position on the least first clearance surface, or from a position therebetween.

A method of manufacturing a TiAl alloy impeller includes a blank preparation step in which a blank of the TiAl alloy impeller is prepared, wherein the blank has a shaft portion and a plurality of blades, and a thickness of an outer edge of each of the blades of the blank is set so as to be larger than a thickness of an outer edge of a blade of the TiAl alloy impeller, and an additional work step in which an additional work is performed on each of the blades of the blank. In the additional work step, the additional work is performed on a first surface of a portion that includes at least the outer edge of each of the blades or the first surface and a second surface of the portion thereof.

A method for manufacturing a unitary body side structural frame for a vehicle is provided. The method comprises providing a plurality of blanks, joining the blanks to each other to form a composite blank wherein joining the blanks includes forming one or more overlapping regions formed by partially overlapping two blanks and deforming the composite blank to form the unitary body side structural frame. A unitary body side structural frame as obtained by any of the methods herein described is also provided.

The invention relates to a method for repairing a damaged blade tip of a turbine blade which is armor-plated and provided with a blade coating, of a thermal gas turbine. The method according to the invention comprises the steps of removing a blade tip armor plating of the turbine blade at least in the region of the damaged blade tip and producing a repair surface (12), removing only a part of the blade coating of the turbine blade in the region of the repair surface while preserving a part of the blade coating separated from the repair surface (14), restoring the blade tip reinforcement (20), and restoring the blade coating in the region of the repaired blade tip (22). The invention furthermore relates to a device for carrying out such a method.

A method of forming a build in a powder bed includes providing a first diode laser fiber array and a second diode laser fiber array, emitting a plurality of laser beams from selected fibers of the second diode laser fiber array onto the powder bed, corresponding to a pattern of a layer of the build, simultaneously melting powder in the powder bed corresponding to the pattern of the layer of the build, scanning a first diode laser fiber array along an outer boundary of the powder bed and emitting a plurality of laser beams from selected fibers of the first diode laser fiber array and simultaneously melting powder in the powder bed corresponding to the outer boundary of the layer of the build to contour the layer of the build. An apparatus for forming a build in a powder bed including a first diode laser fiber array and a second diode laser fiber array is also disclosed. The first diode laser fiber array configured to contour the layer of the build.

A device for producing and removing an internal contour from a planar substrate comprising: a beam-producing- and beam-forming arrangement which is configured to perform: a contour definition step wherein a laser beam is guided over the substrate to produce a plurality of individual zones of internal damage in a substrate material along a contour line defining the internal contour; a crack deformation step, wherein the laser beam is guided over the substrate and produces a plurality of individual zones of internal damage in the substrate material to form a plurality of crack line portions that lead away from the contour line into the internal contour; and a material removal-step, wherein a laser beam directed towards the substrate surface that inscribes a removal line through a thickness of the substrate at the internal contour causes the internal contour to detach from the substrate.
Surface topography control
Various aspects of the present disclosure are directed toward utilizing pulsed laser light to melt and displace material along a surface. As may be consistent with one or more embodiments, material at respective regions of a surface is melted and displaced using pulsed laser light. The melting and displacement at different ones of the regions is carried out to facilitate different displacement at each region. Such an approach may be used by varying characteristics, such as fluence, of the pulsed laser light at each region. In this contexts, surfaces can be smoothed, and structures can be formed on the surface.
Systems for a digital showroom with virtual reality and augmented reality
A system allows a user to select designs for apparel and preview these designs before manufacture. The previews provide photorealistic visualizations in two or three dimensions, and can be presented on a computer display, projected on a screen, or presented in virtual reality (e.g., via headset), or augmented reality. The system can also include a projection system that projects the new designs onto garments on mannequins in a showroom. The garments and the new designs projected onto the garments have a three-dimensional appearance as if the garments having the new designs are worn by people. Software and lasers are used in finishing the garments to produce garments with the new designs and the finished garments have an appearance of the three-dimensional appearance of the garments and new designs on the mannequins with the new designs projected onto the garments by the projection system.

The laser welded assembly includes a first work piece having a thickness (T1) defined between an external surface and a faying surface; a second work piece having a thickness (T2) defined between an external surface and a faying surface of the second work piece; a weld seam having a core fusion zone extending from the external surface of the first work piece through the faying interface and at least partially into the thickness (T2) of the second work piece; and a protruding fusion zone extending laterally from the core fusion zone adjacent to the external surface of the first work piece. The protruding fusion zone may be formed by post-heating or concurrently with the core fusion zone.
