Structure having stress protected groove weld and structural members forming the same
A structural member includes a body having a first surface, a second surface, and an end surface at an end portion of the structural member. The end portion of the structural member includes a root protrusion extending radially outward from the second surface of the structural member along a root protrusion radius to an outer end of the root protrusion to define a root protrusion height extending from the second surface of the structural member to the outer end of the root protrusion. The root protrusion further includes a root protrusion width extending between an inner edge and an outer edge of the outer end of the root protrusion. The root protrusion radius, the root protrusion height, and the root protrusion width are configured to define a stress protected weld root region isolated beyond and away from a root stress flow path propagated through the body of the structural member.
Method for Improving the Strength and Ductility of Brittle Intermetallic Alloys through Additive Manufacturing
The present invention provides an additive manufacturing (AM) processing and design approach using removable “heat sink” artifacts to tailor the mechanical properties of traditionally low strength and low ductility alloys. As an example, the design approach was demonstrated with the Fe-50 at. % Co alloy, as a model material of interest for electromagnetic applications. AM-processed components exhibited unprecedented performance, with a 300% increase in strength and an order-of-magnitude improvement in ductility relative to conventional wrought material. The method enables the design and processing of high-performance, next-generation components and alloys.

A corresponding control method is also provided. The control device can be used to control residual stress at the welding seam of steels.
SINGLE-BEAM DOUBLE-PHYSICAL-EFFECT COORDINATING AND DISTRIBUTING METHOD APPLICABLE TO UNIFORM LASER SHOCK AND APPLICATION THEREOF
The present invention provides a single-beam double-physical-effect coordinating and distributing method applicable to uniform laser shock and application thereof, and belongs to the technical field of laser shock effect control. The present invention does not stipulate the specific adjusting and distributing mean, and only provides a coordinating principle and method. The present invention gives a universal and systematic method for setting absorption layer feature parameters applicable to mass laser shock uniform peening under a liquid constraint condition, so as to facilitate the relevant technician to quickly obtain the liquid constraint laser shock processing technology conforming to a distribution proportion of its double physical effects, thereby being beneficial to development and application of the laser shock peening treatment, and therefore having the good actual application value.
JOINT PART DETERMINATION METHOD AND JOINT MATERIAL MANUFACTURING METHOD
A method includes the following: an incidence step in which ultrasonic waves from an insertion side and the side opposite thereto of a tool are caused to be incident on a joint part when a workpiece is joined by the tool that has a probe and a shoulder which supports the probe and that is for friction stir welding; an image acquisition step for obtaining an ultrasonic wave transmission image of the joint part using the ultrasonic waves; and a determination step for determining that the joint part has been joined if width-dimensions of the joint part obtained from the ultrasonic wave transmission image are equivalent to at least the outer diameter d of the probe and if no defect of a prescribed size or greater is found in a range equivalent to the outer diameter D of the shoulder or less in the ultrasonic wave transmission image.
