TURBINE BLADE TIP, TURBINE BLADE AND METHOD
A turbine blade tip, turbine blade and method where improved cooling is made possible by an improved cooling structure with cooling air holes inside a depression in a blade tip and a special arrangement of multiple cooling air holes which are supplied by a single cooling air channel inside a wall.
Braze method to modify a passage
A process of modifying a passage in a component is provided. The process includes inserting a first material into the passage; blocking at least one end of the passage; inserting an elongated member into the passage through the first material; heat treating the passage, the first material, and the elongated member to form a solid interior in component; and machining through the solid interior to form a modified passage in the component.
REPAIR METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR HONEYCOMB STRUCTURES IN GAS TURBINE ENGINES
A method of applying a braze component to a honeycomb structure may comprise: applying at least a partial vacuum within a chamber, the chamber defined at least partially by a vacuum device and a cover, the honeycomb structure disposed within the chamber, the braze component disposed between the honeycomb structure and the cover; pulling the cover towards the braze component in response to applying the partial vacuum; and pulling the braze component into a plurality of hexagonal cells defined by the honeycomb structure in response to pulling the cover towards the braze component.
Field machining of wind turbine gearboxes
A gearbox repair assembly is disclosed herein. The gearbox repair assembly includes a sleeve having an inner diameter configured to receive a bearing assembly and an outer diameter configured to fit within a bore of a gearbox housing. The gearbox housing can be part of a gearbox of a wind turbine. The gearbox repair assembly further includes a retaining plate configured to be attached to the gearbox housing for preventing an outer race of the bearing assembly from rotating in the bore relative to the gearbox housing. Also provided are methods to repair such a gearbox. The gearbox repair assembly and related methods reduce the time and cost needed to repair the gearboxes.
BACKWALL STRIKE BRAZE REPAIR
A process of repairing a component includes identifying a void in a component; determining at least one approximate physical configuration of the void; inserting borescope into the component in order to view the void; providing a repair rod approximately equivalent to at least one of the least one approximate physical configuration of the void; inserting the repair rod into component; confirming insertion of the repair rod in the void; separating the repair rod to leave a repair plug in the void; and depositing braze paste over the repair plug in the void.
AIRFOIL JOINING APPARATUS AND METHODS
An airfoil component for attaching to a cropped airfoil is provided. The cropped airfoil comprises a cropped airfoil attachment section and a cropped first side opposite a cropped second side, which each extend axially between a cropped first edge and a cropped second edge to define a cropped chord length. The airfoil component comprises a body having a component first side opposite a component second side. The body defines an attachment section for attaching the airfoil component to the cropped airfoil at the cropped airfoil attachment section. The attachment section extends axially between a component first edge and a component second edge to define a component chord length, and the attachment section is oversized with respect to the cropped airfoil attachment section such that the component chord length is longer than the cropped chord length. Systems and methods also are provided.
PISTON SEAL ASSEMBLY GUARDS AND INSERTS FOR SEAL GROOVE
A method of repairing a piston seal assembly comprises removing worn material from a piston seal groove to generate a worked seal groove, applying a groove buildup member to the worked seal groove, and disposing a seal member proximate the groove buildup member.
Layer debonding
A method of debonding a first layer from a second layer, wherein the first layer is bonded to the second layer by an adhesive located between the first and second layers. The method includes inserting a blade of a cleaving tool between the first and second layers, and exerting a controlled force on the cleaving tool to move the cleaving tool so as to de-bond the first and second layers in a region. The force exerted is controlled to match a de-bonding force calculated for the region, and such that the movement of the cleaving tool stops when the calculated force is less than a force required to move the cleaving tool, and continues when the calculated force is higher than or equal to the force required to move the cleaving tool.
COMPONENT TREATMENT PROCESS AND TREATED GAS TURBINE COMPONENT
A component treatment processes and treated gas turbine components are disclosed. The gas turbine treatment process includes laser-removing coating from a substrate of a turbine component to form laser-induced plasma, spectroscopically analyzing the laser-induced plasma, and discontinuing the laser-removing in response to the spectroscopic analyzing. The treated gas turbine component includes a laser-affected surface, the laser-affected surface having one or both of modified dimensions and modified microstructure due to being exposed to the laser-removing of the coating. The laser-affected surface has a depth corresponding to the laser-removing being discontinued based upon the spectroscopic analyzing of the laser-induced plasma formed from the laser-removing.
CUSTOMIZED BLEND LIMIT FOR GAS TURBINE ENGINE AIRFOILS
A method of developing a suggested blend repair to an airfoil includes the steps of: (a) storing history with regard to a particular airfoil in a particular engine; (b) taking information with regard to new damage to the particular airfoil; (c) reaching an initial blend recommendation based upon step (b); (d) assessing whether the initial blend recommendation of step (c) would be appropriate to repair the new damage based upon a consideration of steps (a)-(c); and (e) reporting a final blend recommendation. An airfoil repair recommendation system is also disclosed.
