A method includes receiving a first alignment state indication at a portable handheld tool from an alignment tool. The first alignment state indication indicating an alignment state of a workpiece relative to a reference that is independent and distinct from the portable handheld tool. The method also includes, based on the first alignment state indication, enabling a first selectable drive state of a drive system of the portable handheld tool. The method further includes actuating the drive system responsive to user input, where the drive system is limited based on the first selectable drive state.

MACHINE TOOL

A machine tool includes a drive unit driving a tool for machining a workpiece, and a control unit controlling the drive unit. The machine tool further includes an abnormality determining unit that determines whether machining can be continued, based on operation information of the drive unit, and a power failure detection unit that switches the power source of the control unit from a normal power supply unit to an emergency power supply unit if power failure is detected, and switches the power source from the emergency power supply unit to the normal power supply unit if recovery of power supply is detected after power failure. The control unit stops operation of the drive unit when power failure is detected, and thereafter, if recovery of power supply is detected, and the abnormality determining unit determines that machining can be continued, the control unit drives the drive unit, thereby automatically resuming machining.

MACHINE TOOL SYSTEM AND OPENING STOP POSITION CALCULATING DEVICE
20170269569 · 2017-09-21 · ·

A machine tool system and an opening stop position calculating device are provided. The machine tool system includes an openable and closable door for closing an opening of a cover surrounding a machine tool. Furthermore, the machine tool system includes an opening width setting unit for setting an opening width of the door, an opening stop position calculating unit for calculating an opening stop position of the door at which a total time, which is obtained by summing a time required to move the door from a fully closed position to a position of the set opening width and a time required to move the door from an opening stop position where the door is opened and stopped to the fully closed position, is minimized, and a door control unit for controlling opening and closing of the door based on the calculated opening stop position when exchanging the workpiece.

TOOL CHANGER
20170259388 · 2017-09-14 ·

In order to provide a tool changer that can detect an entry of a foreign substance into a turret mechanism portion or wear of a turret mechanism part, a tool changer of the present invention includes a reference phase false detection sensing portion that monitors load variations which occur in a turret drive source and detects an entry of a foreign substance into the turret mechanism portion based on a difference between the load variations and a reference load used as a reference. Moreover, the reference phase false detection sensing portion can also detect the progress of wear of the turret mechanism part based on the integral of the absolute value of a difference between the load variations which occur in the turret drive source and the reference load used as a reference.

A machine tool includes a spindle configured to hold a tool, a tool magazine configured to hold a plurality of tools and to exchange the tools with the spindle, and a cleaning mechanism configured to remove adhering objects adhered to the tool magazine by spraying fluid to the tool magazine.

MACHINE TOOL AND MACHINE TOOL SELF-DIAGNOSIS METHOD
20220193848 · 2022-06-23 · ·

A machine tool including a fixed cover and a movable cover for covering at least part of a machining region includes a cover control device that includes a driving circuit for driving the movable cover, an abnormality detection device that detects an abnormality while the movable cover is driven, a self-diagnosis device that performs evaluation on whether the abnormality detection device is normal, and an output device that outputs a result of the evaluation by the self-diagnosis device. The self-diagnosis device is configured to perform the evaluation on whether the abnormality detection device is normal based on an operating state of the abnormality detection device at a time when a pseudo abnormality is generated on the movable cover by driving the movable cover via the driving circuit.

Rotary union with integral sensor array

A rotary union that includes rotating and non-rotating machine components, each having a sealing ring, which can together form a mechanical face seal. A rotor disposed on the rotating machine component includes one or more magnets. A sensor array disposed in the housing includes a plurality of sensing elements that are integrated with a control device, a communication device, and a power storage device. The sensor array further includes a magnetic pickup coil disposed to closely overlap the outer periphery of the rotor. When the rotating machine component rotates, the magnet creates a rotating magnetic field that cooperates with the magnetic pickup coil to produce electrical power to operate the sensor array.
