METHOD FOR PRODUCING COLORED WOOD
Provided is a method for producing colored wood, the method including: a step of impregnating a block of wood with an organic acid aqueous solution containing an organic acid; and a step of performing steam treatment at high temperature and high pressure on the block of wood in a wet state of being impregnated with the organic acid aqueous solution while keeping the block of wood in the wet state. In the steam treatment, the temperature is 110? C. or more and 160? C. or less and the pressure is a saturated steam pressure at the temperature.
Densified wood including process for preparation
A wood substrate or member is included, having an increased density with respect to natural, untreated wood. The process includes drying the wood prior to application of heat and pressure, which are controlled to reduce or eliminate color change on a surface of the wood member where heat and pressure are applied.
WASTE-FREE PROCESSING FOR LIGNIN MODIFICATION OF FIBROUS PLANT MATERIALS, AND LIGNIN-MODIFIED FIBROUS PLANT MATERIALS
A piece of natural fibrous plant material, such as wood or bamboo, can be infiltrated with a chemical solution and subsequently subjected to a temperature of at least 80? C. to produce a softened piece of fibrous plant material having modified lignin therein. The content of modified lignin in the softened piece can be at least 90% of the content of native lignin in the natural fibrous plant material. The modified lignin retained in the softened piece can have shorter macromolecular chains than that of the native lignin. The softened piece can be subjected to densification, for example, to yield a high-strength structural material, or to subsequent drying, for example, to yield a flexible or anisotropically-clastic material. The processing of the natural fibrous plant material can avoid, or at least reduce, the production of black liquor or other waste liquids.
Process for the production of OSB wood-based boards with reduced emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
A process for the production of OSB wood-based panels including: a) producing wood strands from suitable wood logs; b) treating at least part of the wood strands with steam at a temperature between 80 C. and 120 C. and a pressure between 0.5 bar and 2 bar; c) drying the steam-treated wood strands; d) gluing the steam-treated and dried wood strands and, optionally, gluing the non-steam treated wood strands with at least one binder; e) scattering the glued wood strands onto a conveyor belt; and f) pressing the glued wood strands into an OSB wood-based board. The steam treatment takes place after the wood strands have been produced and made available, or after the wood strands have been sifted and separated according to the use of the wood strands for the middle and top layers of the panel. Also, an OSB wood-based panel made using the process.
Heating Panel, Treatment Apparatus, And Method For Treating Wood Material
The invention is a heating panel (10) for treating wood material (22), comprising two boundary members (12) arranged parallel to each other, and a heating wire (14) arranged between the boundary members (12).
The heating panel (10) is characterised in that the heating panel (10) further comprises a solidified wood treatment composition (16) arranged between the boundary members (12) and surrounding the heating wire (14), and the boundary members (12) are configured to allow the solidified wood treatment composition (16) to contact the wood material (22) to be treated.
The invention is furthermore a treatment apparatus (20), and a method for treating wood material (22).
MODIFICATION ARRANGEMENT FOR HYGROSCOPIC MATERIAL
An invention relates to thermal or thermomechanical processing of hygroscopic material to adjust the material properties. The invention concerns a modification arrangement for the hygroscopic material. The modification arrangement comprises a modification unit (202) and a fluid container (204) that is coupled with a control valve (205) to at least one fluid aperture (203). The modification arrangement is configured for heating the hygroscopic material in the modification unit (202) to extract water from it and, in response to opening of the control valve (205), leading fluid from the fluid container through said at least one fluid aperture (203) into the modification unit (202). The modification arrangement further comprises a treatment agent (207) added to the fluid so that the treatment agent (207) is absorbed into the hygroscopic material and modifies it. The treatment agent (207) includes at least one of the following ingredients: a preservative, a dye, a pigment, an aroma, an odour eliminator, a pesticide, an impregnation ingredient, or a fire retardant.
Delignified wood materials, and methods for fabricating and use thereof
A delignified wood material is formed by removing substantially all of the lignin from natural wood. The resulting delignified wood retains cellulose-based lumina of the natural wood, with nanofibers of the cellulose microfibrils being substantially aligned along a common direction. The unique microstructure and composition of the delignified wood can provide advantageous thermal insulation and mechanical properties, among other advantages described herein. The thermal and mechanical properties of the delignified wood material can be tailored by pressing or densifying the delignified wood, with increased densification yielding improved strength and thermal conductivity. The chemical composition of the delignified wood also offers unique optical properties that enable passive cooling under solar illumination.
