Polymer composite comprising an interfacially modified fiber and particle
Embodiments herein relate to a composite material including about 10 to 80 wt. % of a polymer phase, the polymer phase comprising a thermoplastic polymer with a density of less than about 1.9 g-m-2; and about 20 to 90 wt. % of a dispersed mixed particulate phase, the dispersed mixed particulate phase comprising a mixed particulate and about 0.005 to 8 wt. % of a coating of at least one interfacial modifier. The mixed particulate including a portion of a reinforcing fiber and a portion of a particle. The composite material having a Young's modulus of greater than 700 MPa. In various embodiments, structural building components made from the composite are included as well as additive manufacturing components made from the composite. Other embodiments are also included herein.
Method of manufacturing OSB with acoustic dampening properties
A manufacturing process for manufacturing wood products with acoustic dampening properties. A noise-dampening polymer is introduced in-line in the manufacturing process to achieve higher acoustic performance. The polymer can be a viscoelastic polymer which is added during blending of the lignocellulosic strands prior to mat formation, or sprayed or otherwise coated on the lignocellulosic strands during mat formation, prior to formation of any boards or panels.
Articles made from lipophilic-rich cellulosic material and methods therefor
The invention relates to systems and techniques for manufacturing articles containing cellulosic material, a tackifier, and a binder, and related processes of making and using the cellulosic articles. In particularly exemplary embodiments, the manufactured articles are door skins, sometimes known as door facings, and doors made from the door skins. The article contains a lipophilic cellulosic material, a tackifier, and a binder.
COMPOSITE CELLULOSIC PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES FOR MAKING AND USING SAME
Composite cellulosic products and processes for making same. In some embodiments, the composite cellulosic product can include a plurality of cellulosic substrates and an at least partially cured binder. Prior to curing, the binder can include a mixture formed by combining magnesium oxide, water, and magnesium chloride. A weight ratio of the magnesium oxide to the magnesium chloride in the binder can be at least 2.2:1 to 8.5:1.

Composite panels with adhesive and separate fragment layers
A panel and a method for manufacturing thereof where the panel includes a first layer comprising a first blend of paper fragments and plastic fragments; a second layer comprising a second blend of paper fragments and plastic fragments, wherein the paper fragments and plastic fragments of the second blend are coated with an adhesive; and a third layer comprising the first blend of paper fragments and plastic fragments, wherein the second layer is disposed between the first layer and the third layer, and wherein the first layer, the second layer, and the third layer are combined to form the panel using heat and pressure. In another embodiment, the paper fragments and plastic fragments of the first blend, not the second blend, are coated with an adhesive.
PARTICLEBOARDS INCLUDING MODIFIED GUAYULE RESINS/SOY PROTEIN RESIN BLENDS AND ASSOCIATED METHODS FOR FORMING SAME
A particleboard includes a fiber component and an adhesive composition including a mixture of a modified guayule resin and soy protein. The modified guayule resin can be a base-solvent modified guayule resin or an H.sub.2O.sub.2-modified guayule resin. The fiber component can be a natural fiber such as a natural fiber selected from guayule bagasse, wood chips, wood particles, wood waste straw, wood fiber, and any combination thereof. The particleboard is formed by mixing the adhesive composition with the fiber component, introducing the mixture to a press, and pressing the mixture in the press.
SURFACE MODIFYING AGENT FORMULATION
The present invention describes the production of wood panel boards, or the like, in which a surface modifying agent is mixed with a polyol to prepare a stable surface modifying agent polyol composition. The resultant composition is reacted with an isocyanate, and in particular, a polymeric di-isocyanate resin, in the presence of wood chips, fibers or the like, for the production of lignocellulosic based panels, such as oriented strand board (OSB), MDF, HDF and particle board panel products. In use, the surface modifying agent polyol composition is mixed with the polymeric di-isocyanate resin and the resultant mixture is applied to a lignocellulosic material, such as wood chips or fibers, immediately prior to hot pressing of the mixture to produce the panels. Sticking of the panels to the metal press belts or press plates typically used during production, is reduced or eliminated.
3D CAPILLARY SELF-ASSEMBLY OF LONG ASPECT RATIO PARTICLES
The present invention relates to a method for assembling particles having a long axis, a short axis and an average aspect ratio of 10-10,000. The method includes agitating a combination of a first solution, a second solution and the particles in any order to form a mixture wherein one of the first solution and the second solution is in the form of droplets dispersed in the other of the first solution and the second solution and the long axis of the particles is longer than a diameter of the droplets in the mixture, and continuing the agitation until the particles assemble into aggregates of particles with at least 30% of the particles aligned in parallel along the long axis. Aggregate or aggregate composites form by the method are also described.
