Tooling inserts for ceramic matrix composites
The disclosure describes a system that includes a controller configured to receive a representation of a three-dimensional geometry of a preform, determine a set of dimensions of the preform from the representation of the preform, and determine dimensions of at least one insert for a fixed tooling based on a dimensional tolerance of the preform, the set of dimensions of the preform, and dimensions of the fixed tooling.
UTILITY ENCLOSURE APRON
Precast utility enclosure aprons for buried utility enclosures that have an angled top surface to direct water, ice and debris away from the center of the apron and to limit damage to the apron and utility enclosure caused by impacts to the apron.
Apparatus and process with a vibratory angled plate and/or fixed horizontal plate for forming fiber-reinforced cementitious panels with controlled thickness
A production line and process including a moving carrier web for transporting the panel, and a device for controlling thickness of a formed, but not yet set, fiber reinforced cementitious panel slurry on the web. The thickness control device may include an angled rigid plate for contacting a downstream end of the angled plate with the slurry on the moving carrier web and a mounting stand for mounting the angled rigid. The thickness control device may include a flat horizontal plate at a fixed height over the moving carrier for contacting the entire lower surface of the horizontal plate with a facer on the slurry on the moving carrier web. Or, the thickness control device may include the angled plate and include the horizontal plate that contacts the facer.
Method for injecting a loaded slurry into a fibrous texture
A method for manufacturing a part made of composite material includes injecting into a fibrous texture a slurry including at least one powder of refractory ceramic particles suspended in a liquid phase, filtering the liquid phase of the slurry and retaining the powder of refractory ceramic particles inside the texture so as to obtain a fibrous preform loaded with refractory ceramic particles, densifying the fibrous texture by treatment of the refractory ceramic particles present in the fibrous texture in order to form a refractory matrix in the texture. The method further includes, before injecting the slurry under pressure, pre-saturating the fibrous texture with a carrier fluid consisting in injecting into said texture a carrier fluid.
ARTICLES FOR CREATING HOLLOW STRUCTURES IN CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITES
The present disclosure relates to a method of fabricating a ceramic composite components. The method may include providing at least a first layer of reinforcing fiber material which may be a pre-impregnated fiber. An additively manufactured component may be provided on or near the first layer. A second layer of reinforcing fiber, which may be a pre-impregnated fiber may be formed on top the additively manufactured component. A precursor is densified to consolidates at least the first and second layer into a densified composite, wherein the additively manufactured material defines at least one cooling passage in the densified composite component.
Ceramic matrix composite
The invention concerns an article (20) formed of a ceramic matrix composite structure having a plurality of ceramic fiber layers (22) and a binder material (24) interspersed throughout said layers. The ceramic matrix composite material may be sintered. The ceramic fiber layers undulate relative to one or more outer surfaces (38;40) of the article. Thus support features (48) within the article are able to share a load in use between a plurality of layers. The invention may be suited to engine components such as turbine seal segments in a gas turbine engine.
Fiber Reinforced Aerogel Composites
Fiber reinforced aerogel composites, including a transparent composite material that contains an aerogel and fibers embedded into the aerogel and/or bonded to one or more surfaces of the aerogel, and composites that contain an aerogel tile and an assemblage of fibers embedded into the aerogel tile or bonded to the aerogel tile that are useful as Cherenkov radiators for the detection and identification of subatomic particles. Also, methods of making and using the composites.
NEEDLED CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE COOLING PASSAGES
A method for forming a passage in a ceramic matrix composite component incudes forming a core for a ceramic matrix composite component; embedding a hollow member into the core at a desired location for a passage in the ceramic matrix composite component; wrapping the core with a ceramic material; and inserting a rod through the hollow member and into the core.
Ceramic Matrix Composites, and Methods and Systems for Making Same
Methods and ceramic matrix composite articles formed thereby, as well as systems for making such ceramic matrix composite articles and carrying out such methods are disclosed herein. The methods include preparing a ceramic matrix composite by steps including (a) providing reinforcing fiber, such as carbon fiber, for impregnation; (b) heat treating the reinforcing fiber; (c) impregnating the heat treated reinforcing fiber with a composition comprising a ceramic forming polymer to form a fiber reinforced, ceramic forming polymer pre-preg; and (d) heat molding the fiber reinforced, ceramic forming polymer pre-preg to form a molded ceramic matrix composite article.
Method for producing a textile-reinforced construction material component, and tensioning device for same
A method for producing a three-dimensional construction material component preferably having at least one curved surface. A plurality of spacers are arranged in a formwork. A textile reinforcement is supported on the spacers, such that the textile reinforcement has a defined position within a formwork interior of the formwork. A tensile force is applied via a tensioning device to the textile reinforcement in at least one tension direction. Construction material is introduced into the formwork interior and surrounds the textile reinforcement. The construction material is then hardened, wherein the tensile force is maintained during the hardening. During this process, the spacers are integrated into the construction material component. The tensioning device has at least one clamping unit for clamping an end portion of the textile reinforcement between two clamping surfaces. The clamping surfaces are provided on clamping insert bodies, which are of a plastic material of a defined hardness.
