PREPARATION OF A FIBER-REINFORCED IMPLANT
A method is disclosed for manufacturing a fiber-reinforced implant structure. A fiber-reinforced rigid insert is provided, comprising continuous fibers impregnated with a first thermoplastic polymer. A molding cycle is performed by overmolding. The insert is placed into a mold cavity; and a second thermoplastic polymer in melted form is injection or compression molded into the mold cavity. The insert is thus at least partly covered by the second thermoplastic polymer. The second thermoplastic polymer injection or compression in the mold cavity is cooled, thereby obtaining a molded fiber-reinforced implant structure containing the at least partly covered insert. The insert is in a predefined location in the mold cavity during said injection or compression molding and during said cooling. The first thermoplastic polymer and the second thermoplastic polymer are the same or different. Also disclosed is an implant structure, and an implant comprising said implant structure.
Motor vehicle component with lighting function
A motor vehicle component with a lighting function includes a laminate component having a first fiber-reinforced composite material and a second fiber-reinforced composite material, the first fiber-reinforced composite material being electrically insulating and the second fiber-reinforced composite material being electrically conductive. The motor vehicle component also includes a light source which is at least partially embedded in the first fiber-reinforced composite material. The light source is electrically conductively connected to the second fiber-reinforced composite material, and the second fiber-reinforced composite material has a light exit region from which light emitted by the light source can exit so that it can be seen from outside the motor vehicle component.
Method for fabricating a filter containing tragacanthin nanofibers
A fabrication method for a water-absorbent filter includes obtaining a homogenized tragacanth suspension by dissolving tragacanth in a solvent, where the solvent may include distilled water, ethyl acetate, acetic acid, and formic acid, obtaining a support layer by coating a stainless steel mesh with a thin layer of a hydrophobic polymer, coating a stainless steel mesh with the thin layer of the hydrophobic polymer comprising electrospinning a hydrophobic polymer solution onto the stainless steel mesh, forming a tragacanth nanofibrous web on the support layer by electrospinning the homogenized tragacanth suspension onto the support layer, and cross-linking the tragacanth nanofibrous web by exposing the tragacanth nanofibrous web to a saturated vapor of a cross-linking agent.
Bladder mandrel package
A bladder mandrel package, used to manufacture a composite structure, includes a mandrel and a wrap ply, surrounding the mandrel to form a wrapped mandrel. The bladder mandrel package also includes a first radius filler, coupled to the wrap ply at a first radius of the wrapped mandrel, and a second radius filler coupled to the wrap ply at a second radius of the wrapped mandrel. The mandrel, the wrap ply, the first radius filler, and the second radius filler are consolidated to from the bladder mandrel package.
Composite transition fitting
A pipe fitting having a first body and a second body that together at least partially define a fluid flow passage. The first body defines a first portion of the fluid flow passage that extends from a first end of the fluid flow passage to a first internal opening. The second body defines a second portion of the fluid flow passage that extends from a second internal opening to a second end of the fluid flow passage. The first body has a first interface surface that surrounds the first internal opening, the first interface surface having a plurality of anti-rotation grooves. The second body has a second interface surface that surrounds the second internal opening and engages with the first interface surface. The first internal opening is in fluid communication with the second internal opening. The second interface surface has a plurality of anti-rotation fingers that are each received by and engage with a corresponding one of the anti-rotation grooves. Rotation of the second body relative to the first body is resisted by the engagement of the anti-rotation fingers with the anti-rotation grooves.
Mold assembly for manufacturing a composite part with a stiffener, method of manufacturing a composite part and composite part with a stiffener
A mold assembly for manufacturing a composite part with a stiffener, the mold assembly includes a bottom mold configured to form a first surface of the composite part, wherein the bottom mold has at least one elongated recess configured to form a stiffener in the composite part; a feeder unit having a shape corresponding to the at least one elongated recess, wherein the feeder unit is configured to fit at least partially into the at least one elongated recess; and a top mold configured to form a second surface of the composite part opposite to the first surface. Also a method of manufacturing a composite part using such a mold assembly, which includes draping a flat laminate over the bottom mold and pushing portions of the laminate into the at least one elongated recess.
