ELECTROLYTIC CELL COVERS COMPRISING A RESIN COMPOSITION POLYMERIZED WITH A GROUP 8 OLEFIN METATHESIS CATALYST

Articles of manufacture possessing corrosion resistance characteristics are described, in particular for use in the chlor-alkali and other industries. The articles are formed from a resin composition, e.g., a cyclic olefin composition, polymerized with a Group 8 olefin metathesis catalyst. In particular aspects, an electrolytic cell component, such as a cell cover for use in the electrolysis of brine, may be formed from the resin composition. Among other benefits, such articles provide improved corrosion resistance compared to articles molded from other resin compositions, such as fiberglass reinforced polyesters and vinyl esters, and two-component dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) resins comprising molybdenum or tungsten pre-catalysts.

Various implementations include a self-heating device. The device includes an electrically insulative layer, an electrically conductive layer, a first electrode, and a second electrode. The electrically insulative layer has a first surface and a second surface spaced apart from the first surface. The electrically conductive layer has a first surface and a second surface spaced apart from the first surface. The second surface of the conductive layer is coupled to the first surface of the insulative layer. The conductive layer includes a polymer. Conductive nanoparticles are embedded in the polymer. The first electrode and a second electrode are coupled to the conductive layer. The first electrode and the second electrode are spaced apart from each other and in electrical communication with each other through the conductive layer. The conductive layer produces heat through Joule heating when electrical current is passed through the conductive layer.

An optical film including an olefin resin layer that contains a cyclic olefin polymer and an ester compound. The ratio of the ester compound in the olefin resin layer is 0.1% by weight to 10% by weight. An average light absorbance of the optical film in a wavelength range of 9 μm to 11 μm is 0.1% or more.

THERMOPLASTIC FORMING TOOLS, ASSEMBLAGES THEREOF, AND METHODS OF MAKING AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF

Thermoplastic forming tools and assemblages are provided for forming thermoplastic components. In particular, thermoplastic forming tools and assemblages are provided for forming thermoplastic components having precision micro-scale features and reproducible macro-scale dimensions. The thermoplastic forming assemblages can include at least a bottom tool and a top tool having a rigid tool body and an elastomer layer conformally coating at least a portion of both rigid tool bodies. The bottom and top tool can be so dimensioned that, when in the closed position, they define a cavity forming the thermoplastic component. The rigid tool bodies provide the reproducible macro-scale dimensions in the thermoplastic component, while the elastomer layers form and release the precision micro-scale features in the thermoplastic component when formed. Tool-forming structures are also provided for making thermoplastic forming tools and assemblages, as well as methods of making the thermoplastic forming tools, and methods of use for forming thermoplastic components.

COC polymer compounds for 3D printing

Cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) is useful as a build material for 3D printing, especially desktop 3D printing.
