COMPOSITES AND METHODS OF FORMING COMPOSITES HAVING FRICTION AND WEAR PLUGS
A friction disk may comprise a first wear surface formed from a carbon fiber-carbon matrix composite material. A wear plug may be located in an opening defined by the carbon fiber-carbon matrix composite material. The wear plug may extend axially from the wear surface. The wear plug may comprise a rod or a particulate.
Fluorinated copolymer composition
A fluorinated copolymer composition includes a thermoplastic resin A and a fluorinated elastomer B dispersed within thermoplastic resin A. Thermoplastic resin A has a shear stress (τ.sub.A) of greater than 0.11 MPa when measured with a capillary rheometer at a shear rate of 243 sec.sup.−1 and at 360° C. in accordance with ASTM D3835. Fluorinated elastomer B dispersed within thermoplastic resin A has an average dispersed particle size of less than 50 μm.
Additive manufacturing techniques and systems to form composite materials
A printer system may include a coaxial extruder head that extrudes a core, a bulk, and/or a core and bulk cladding to form complex structures without retooling. The coaxial extruder head may include a distribution channel with an entrance and an exit, a priming chamber that surrounds the distribution channel. The priming chamber may include an outlet and a first inlet, a heating element thermally connected to the priming chamber, and a nozzle connected to the outlet of the priming chamber. Further, the nozzle may converge from the outlet of the priming chamber to an orifice of the nozzle. In addition, the exit of the distribution channel may be disposed at the orifice of the nozzle. This structure facilitates extruding a core and cladding type composite from the extruder head.
ALTERNATIVE JOINING METHOD
The disclosure relates to an alternative joining method and to the use of the shaped part produced by means of the alternative joining method in drive technology and connection technology.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING COMPOSITE FIBER PREFORM FOR DISC BRAKES
A method that includes winding a composite fabric around a mandrel to form a plurality of layers defining an annulus extending along a central longitudinal axis, where the composite fabric includes a plurality of elongate axial fibers extending substantially in an axial direction relative to the longitudinal axis and a plurality of elongate circumferential fibers extending substantially in a circumferential direction relative to the longitudinal axis; and introducing, into at least a portion of the plurality of layers, a plurality of radial fibers extending substantially in the radial direction relative to the longitudinal axis, where the plurality of radial fibers mechanically bind one or more adjacent layers of the plurality of layers.
METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A BICYCLE COMPONENT, AND BICYCLE COMPONENT
A method of manufacturing a bicycle component having a component body formed at least partially of a fibrous composite material in a shaping mold. A shaping area of the shaping mold which serves to shape an outer section of the component body is provided with at least one intended surface roughness. At the same time, an intentional surface roughness is provided for the outer section by means of the surface roughness of the shaping area during manufacture of the outer section, to inhibit surface imperfections of the shaped outer section.
Composite friction elements and pultrusion method of making same
A composite friction unit of a three dimensional composite body is formed in a system for continuous process manufacturing of composite friction units. The system uses a plurality of rolls of reinforcing fiber fabrics, a resin dispensing system that receives a panel of reinforcing fiber fabric from each one of the rolls and separately dispenses resin through a plurality of dispensing tubes, each associated with a different panel, onto a surface of each panel. A forming die is positioned to receive the plurality of panels of reinforcing fiber fabric after resin is dispensed onto the panels and is configured to form a composite panel from the plurality of panels of reinforcing fiber fabrics. A cutting mechanism cuts a desired shape part from the composite panel.
Molded composite slip of sheet molded compound for downhole tool
A component of a slip assembly is formed by rolling sheet molding compound into a rolled charge. The rolled charge is positioned in a compression molding press and compressed to produce a molded element. The molded element is removed from the compression molding press and can be machined for use as the component of the slip assembly. The component can be a slip segment or can be a cylindrical body for the slip segment. The compound layers in the molded component can be oriented in a number of different orientations in the component and can increase the overall strength of the component.
THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITION
This disclosure relates to a shaped article made from thermoplastic material which may be a thermoplastic elastomeric material containing a masterbatch of a stick-slip modifier having one or more thermoplastic silicone vulcanisates, an assembly comprising the article and a process for making the shaped article.
