LOW WEIGHT MODULAR CARPET COMPONENTS AND METHODS OF MAKING THE SAME
20200308762 · 2020-10-01 ·

A low-weight carpet tile and process for making the same, wherein the carpet tile comprises a facecloth having a plurality of face yarns tufted through a primary backing, an extruded polymer secondary backing layer, and a reinforcing scrim layer partially embedded within the extruded polymer secondary backing layer. The top surface and bottom surface of the carpet tile are defined by the facecloth and the reinforcing scrim layer, respectively. A polymer-based resin is extruded onto the facecloth to form an at least substantially uniform secondary backing layer, and the reinforcing scrim layer is laid onto the extruded polymer secondary backing layer while the extruded polymer secondary backing layer remains above a softening temperature for the resin. The entire multi-layer web is then passed through a nip to embed the reinforcing scrim layer into the extruded polymer secondary layer, and the entire web is chilled.

Chair mat having rug rolling surface

A chair mat has a top that is a rug or carpet so that the chair mat has the appearance of an area rug. A woven or knitted rug is attached to a mesh material that can carry the loads that are applied to the rug top to hold the rug top from stretching or bunching when casters of a wheeled chair move over the rug top. The chair mat has a rigid layer to which a woven or knitted rug is attached to provide a hard underlying surface over when the wheeled chair may more easily move. The chair mat may be hinged to permit the chair mat to be folded to a smaller configuration where it is more readily stored or transported.

FABRIC PRINT MEDIUM
20200290391 · 2020-09-17 · ·

A fabric print medium containing a fabric base substrate with a first and a second side; a polymeric barrier layer that is extruded, or a polymeric barrier layer with adhesion property that is laminated, on at least one side of the fabric base substrate; a primary coating composition that includes a polymeric binder and filler particles applied over a polymeric barrier layer; and an image-receiving coating composition that includes, at least, a first crosslinked polymeric network and a second crosslinked polymeric network, that is applied over the primary coating composition. Also disclosed are the method for making such fabric print medium and the method for producing printed images using said material.

Flooring system

This invention relates to a method for adhering floor tiles together and the flooring system thereby created. The method utilizes individual adhesive units as fasteners for attachment of each floor tile to the next contiguous floor tile. The adhesive units are a multi-layered composite comprised of at least one adhesive layer and at least one layer of polymer film or textile substrate. When a series of floor tiles are attached to one another in this manner, a floating floorcovering article is achieved.

Method of bonding a thermoplastic component to a carpeted component

A method of bonding a thermoplastic component to a carpeted component is provided. The method includes providing a base component, a thermoplastic component and a fibrous carpet or mat between the components. The carpet has a large number of cavities. The carpet is made of a thermoplastic material adapted to bond to the thermoplastic component in response to heat at the interface between the thermoplastic component and the carpet. The method also includes heating the thermoplastic component and the carpet at the interface between the thermoplastic component and the carpet for a period of time to soften the carpet. The method finally includes pressing the components and the softened carpet together under a pressure to cause the softened carpet to flow and at least partially fill the cavities. The carpet at the interface is transformed into a solid bonding layer to bond the components together to create a finished structure.

Method of bonding a thermoplastic component to a carpeted component and the carpeted component to a cellulose-based core in a single pressing step

A method of bonding a thermoplastic component to a carpeted component and the carpeted component to cellulose-based core in a single pressing step is provided. The method includes providing a base component of a reinforced thermoplastic material, the thermoplastic component, a fibrous thermoplastic carpet or mat between the components, a sheet of thermoplastic adhesive and a core of cellulose-based material. The method also includes heating the thermoplastic component and the carpet at the interface between the thermoplastic component and the carpet for a period of time to soften the carpet. The method finally includes pressing the components, the sheet, the core and the softened carpet together under a pressure to cause the softened carpet to flow. The carpet at the interface is transformed into a solid bonding layer to bond the components together and the sheet bonds the base component and the core together to create a finished structure.

RECYCLABLE SURFACE COVERING AND METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR MANUFACTURING A RECYCLABLE SURFACE COVERING
20200254733 · 2020-08-13 ·

A process and system for making a laminated surface covering and the surface covering itself are described. The covering includes several layers bonded to each other. The system performs the process. One example of the process includes passing a first material across a first conveyor, passing a second material across a second conveyor, passing a bonding material across a third conveyor, contacting the first material and the second material to the bonding material, and heating at least one of the first material and the second material. The process also includes introducing the first material, the second material, and the bonding material into a pressure zone such that the bonding material is introduced between a bottom surface of the first material and a top surface of the second material. The process applies pressure to bond the first material and second material together via the bonding material to produce a laminated material.

SURFACE PROTECTION SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF USE
20200247543 · 2020-08-06 ·

Surface protection systems can be applied when the protection of flooring surfaces from contaminates is desired or required to maintain their integrity and appearance. Surface protection systems can be highly storable when rolled up and held together with, for example, integrated straps. When needed, it can be unrolled and placed onto aircraft flooring (or other surfaces) to provide a waterproof, absorbent, slip resistant and adjustable barrier.

Stabilization of looped fabric surfaces by fine-scale embossing

A fabric made of yarns interlooping with each other or passing through an inner layer at looping intervals. The fabric is embossed with a micro-pattern extending into the yarns or into a layer underneath the fabric. The micro-pattern contains a pre-defined pattern of a plurality of binding points attaching the yarns to the inner layer or to the added underlayer. This micro-pattern has an inter-point spacing between adjacent binding points that is less than the interlooping intervals. The fabric can also be embossed with a macro-pattern separate from and coarser than the micro-pattern. The macro-pattern establishes a desired aesthetic in the fabric, and the micro-pattern does not interfere with the desired aesthetic.
