Light-weight hybrid glass laminates

A glass laminate comprises an external glass sheet, an internal glass sheet, and a polymer interlayer formed between the external glass sheet and the internal glass sheet. The external glass sheet can be a thin chemically-strengthened glass sheet or can be a non-chemically strengthened glass sheet, the polymer interlayer can have a thickness of less than 1.6 mm, and the internal glass sheet can be a non-chemically-strengthened glass sheet or a thin chemically strengthened glass sheet.

PROTECTIVE BARRIER FOR SAFETY GLAZING

A protective barrier affixable to a curved substrate comprises a stack of two or more lenses, each of the two or more lenses including a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film, a hard coat on a first side of the PET film, and an adhesive layer on a second side of the PET film opposite the first side. The stack of two or more lenses may have a modulation transfer function that exhibits a contrast value greater than 75% for a spatial resolution of one line-pair per 0.0003 radians at 65 degrees angle of incidence. Heat and pressure may be applied to conform the stack of two or more lenses to the shape of the curved substrate.

Windshield for eliminating ghost images of a head up display system

A substrate, such as a windshield, includes: a first glass element; a second glass element; and a light absorptive element that is disposed directly between the second glass element and the first glass element, that is configured to receive and absorb light output by an image source.

A laminated glass having an interlayer between a glass plate on an exterior side of a vehicle and a glass plate on an interior side of the vehicle, includes a heat generator on a principal surface on a vehicle-exterior side of the glass plate that is on the interior side of the vehicle, wherein at least one of the glass plate on the exterior side of the vehicle and the glass plate on the interior side of the vehicle has a wedge shape in cross section, and wherein a maximum value of a layer thickness of the interlayer is less than or equal to 1 mm.

AUTOMOTIVE GLAZING WITH ANTI-FINGERPRINT COATING

Due to the increased glazed area of modern vehicles, especially the large panoramic glass roofs, we have seen a substantial growth in the use of anti-reflective coatings. Unfortunately, these types of coatings accentuate fingerprints and smudges. The invention provides an automotive glazing which is substantially resistant to fingerprints, and a method of manufacture thereof through the application of an anti-fingerprint coating based on low surface energy silanes.

HYBRID ASYMMETRIC AUTOMOTIVE LAMINATE

Laminated automotive glazing, once limited to just the windshield, is finding more and more application in other positions in vehicles due to its ability to reduce weight, as well as to improve passenger safety, security and comfort. Designing a laminate that can serve as a direct replacement for tempered glass can be challenging Tempered glass is 4 to 5 times stronger than annealed glass and the lamination process has limitations that are not present with tempered. In particular, it is difficult to produce thin laminated glazing with holes. The laminate of the invention comprises strengthened thin glass layers in combination with laminated inserts to provide a thin laminated glazing with holes that has all of the advantages inherent in a laminate while retaining the reliability and utility of a tempered part and further can serve as a direct replacement for a tempered part.

METHODS FOR FORMING CURVED GLASS ARTICLES

Embodiments of a method of cold-forming a glass article are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, the method includes bending a glass sheet over the chuck such that a first major surface of the glass sheets conforms to a bending surface of the chuck. In one or more embodiments, the method includes adhering a frame to the second major surface of the glass sheet such that at least one spacer is positioned between the glass sheet and the frame.
